Since Becoming A Prince Fan, Does Any1 Else Listnen To Genres Of Music They Didnt Before? Before I became a purple hippie. I didnt really bother listening to Jazz, Soul, Funk, Etc. I only really listened to Pop, Hip-Hop and Rock. But since my mum brought me my first P album (Musicology) a few years bck. I have noticed the mighty purple 1 has opened doorways (mentaly) 2 artists I wouldnt of bothered listening 2 before ( Earth,Wind and Fire, Motwown etc) and through him I have appreciation of all types of music now For instance I even have more abscure artists like Nat King Cole in my album collection. Has any1 else had a simliar experience?
P.S Thanks for reading Everybody's looking 4 the ladder

Yes I would say so...I would lend a ear to people that Prince was working with...I bought Corrine Bailey Rae's record as well as Nikka Costa's.
I've tried to expose myself 2 as much music as I could over the years, however, I have a lot of music left to hear...There's a lot of music out there. I find myself these days with the radio because I really can't afford to buy cd's all of the time...whether they be older artists or newer ones. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Actually yeah. I listen to jazz more than I used to after Prince started to do some jazz-type stuff. I used to hate jazz as a kid but know that I'm down with it, I will say that he helped me broaden my musical horizons. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I've always listened to a wide range of genres of music, but ever since becoming a Prince fan, I listen to him 99.999% of the time. It may be abit narrowminded, but now I've grown to love alot of funk, pop and soul music...mainly his. I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

No. I always liked many different kinds of music and I still do, from Opera/classic to lounge, Jazz, House, Britney pop etc.
The only thing is that Prince has a huge complete package and he's the only one who has kept me interested for so long.

I was a diverse music lover from childhood. However as I've gotten older, I've found myself listening to world music a bit more. That, and Jazz/Smooth Jazz. Despite the fact that I grew up listening to Anita Baker and Charlie Parker, I noticed once I got into heavier Prince listening (especially once I discovered Parade), I liked Jazz a LOT more. Imagine how I felt once I got a copy of Venus de Milo all Jazzed out. Poor daddy had to hear me play it straight for 72 hours.

Good question. I've always dug all kinds of music (before discovering P). But the one artist he did turn me onto is Joni. I'm not crazy about her folk stuff but her 70's/80's jazz music is INCREDIBLE. Great stuff.

Discovering Prince did mean a big change 2 me.
It all started with The Police 4 me,then I became a hard-rock fan with Kiss,Van Halen and later on the whole New Wave of British Metal (Iron Maiden etc...) and the glam rock with Motley Crue. Thanx 2 Purple Rain I left the whole hard-rock scene behind, changed my clothes and startied going out in the clubs. Off course at the age of 16,this had a great impact. I also rediscoverd the music I knew from my father: EWF,Stevie and so on. These days I still love all kinds of music, from Metallica 2 Chic. Thanx 2 Prince indeed!! Love4oneanother

I have always listened to many different genres of music: classical, country, blues, jazz, easy listening, a little bit of gospel.
When I first saw and heard Prince, he was another rocker...but in his own right. There were many years when I didn't follow him and when I got into listening to hhim again and watching videos of him, I was shocked and in awe of him performing several genres of music. I have to say that he is the most versatile modern musician I have EVER seen. He plays his guitar with such naturalness...as natural as breathing. He and his guitar are one. "I love you, baby, but not like I love my guitar." No matter your age, pursue your dreams so that you will LIVE.

I became a prince fan in 1988 when I bought the Lovesexy album. And when listening to "Alphabet Street" I felt the FUNK the very first time in my life. I was 16 years old back then. What a revelation that was. After that I explored all the great funk artists of the 70's and 80's. Prince was the key to that fantastic music for me. And for that I'll be very thankful for all my life. Thanks Prince !

I was listenin' 2 East Coast Hip Hop and didn't listen 2 R&B, Soul or anything else 4 that matter. P's different styles of music opened me up 2 a lot of different styles/genres of music.
Thanx P ... Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

No, I have always had a pretty eclectic taste in music. I am sure there are alot of artists that I haven't heard yet,but as far as genre goes,I pretty much listen to anything as long as I think it sounds good.,and that includes Country, and Classical/Opera.
