Rank Prince at a number of the greatest songwriters of all time

How would you rank Prince as one of the greatest songwriters of all time? I'm not exactly sure at what number but I would definitely have him in the top 10. Behind Stevie Wonder, Lennon/McCartney, Smokey Robinson, Lionel Richie, and Holland/Dozier/Holland.
Peace and be wild!

I'm a huge Prince fan and have been for 25 years. I love his music and most of his songs. Having said that, I would never put him in the top 10 songwriters. Not ever! Sure, he's written some very good songs and interesting songs, but he does not rank among the top 10.

As far as #1 - that's just laughable. Listen to some Dylan instead.

I think this is a matter of personal taste. I honestly don't think Bob Dylan is a very good songwriter, in my opinion.

In my experience, people who say this usually don't know anything about his work. On another thread there was someone who said the same thing at the same time as saying he only knew one Dylan song. eek Of course, I soon educated him and made him realise there were tons of songs he knew without realising Bob wrote them. But by then he'd already committed himself to a negative stance and so had to try and bluff it out. lol

Wow! Apparently Mr. Pulitzer disagrees with you. Sorry you don't get Bob. I couldn't live without his music.

Naw it's fine, we all have our own personal taste. I could say that MJ was a great songwriter and people would disagree either or laugh. That doesnt bother me.
