By Eliot Van Buskirk EmailNovember 18, 2008 A recent New Yorker article paints a short, complicated picture of the artist currently known as Prince in which the star -- a noted practitioner of the Jehovah's Witness religion -- responds to questions about social issues. A PerezHilton source says the New Yorker misquoted Prince regarding gay marriage and other issues. The New Yorker maintains that its story is accurate. "You've got the Republicans, and basically they want to live according to [the Bible]," says Prince in the article. "But there's the problem of interpretation, and you've got some churches, some people, basically doing things and saying it comes from here, but it doesn't. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum you've got blue, you've got the Democrats, and they're, like, 'You can do whatever you want.' Gay marriage, whatever. But neither of them is right... "God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, 'Enough.'" At the other end of the literary spectrum is PerezHilton. The publication claims an outraged source within Prince's camp accuses the New Yorker of misquoting Prince. The source also apparently claims that the New Yorker's reporter, Claire Hoffman, did not record the interview, which could make it hard to unravel what really happened. "Contrary to what a recent interview with the New Yorker is reporting, a source close to the rocker tells us that Prince was grossly misquoted and misinterpreted as not down with gay rightsm," reads a post on the site. "Apparently, the interviewer did not even use a recorder... What His Purpleness actually did was gesture to the Bible and said he follows what it teaches, referring mainly to the parts about loving everyone and refraining from judgment. 'We're very angry he was misquoted,' says our Prince insider." However, the New Yorker stands by its story, as a spokeswoman confirmed to Wired.com on Tuesday morning. It sounds like this Prince insider may have been doing some damage control for his client, whose views may come as a surprise to some of his fans. | |

It is not a public relations disaster.
To love people in general is the way that Prince is, However, we as a human body naturally disapprove of certain behaviors. If your child steals something from a store, U don't approve of that behavior, but U still love the child and want them to stop doing that. Prince is a man of integrity. If a million people say jump off a bridge, and Jesus tells Prince not 2...Prince is not gonna jump off the bridge. It's tough love to look a homosexual in the eye and say that I love U but I don't approve of your lifestyle...but hey...For Christ it is spreading, "The Truth." Where tolerance is concerned...No one that is heterosexual and takes a sympathetic approach to the situation does anything else but tolerate that this exists. Homosexuals don't have 2 tolerate that I am living against a divine rule. I have 2 tolerate them. It is our responsibility as Christians 2 stand on solid ground and tell that behavior to stop. We want 2 lift spirits away from the wrong. There are preachers that have turned from homosexuality and can be reached through TBN in Santa Ana, CA, that are ready to counsel. Plus, many christians seem to have it in their mind that homosexuality is a moral choice/decision. I am not gay, but I firmly believe that this is something that people are born with. True christians should have empathy, and not hate because they are too holier than thou to get off their high horse and be self-righteous, which many religious people are. No matter how many times I tell someone I didn't choose to be gay, TRUST ME, it doesn't really matter, because they'll say and think what ever the hell they want! TAME - I'm not in need of counseling by some EX GAY, I'm not the one with the issue, I never had an issue with being who I am and further more its the holy(ier) than thou ppl who have the issue and can't love someone unconditionally regardles of their sexual orientation. I am happy and in love with my partner and I wouldn't have it any other way. The fact is, I came from a perfectly normal homelife with two parents (male and female), I enjoyed sports, action figures and all sorts of boy things and at age 30, I'm still very much a man's man. I am not feminine and I don't wish to be a female, all these horrible stereotypes that ppl associate with being gay, doesn't always apply to every gay man and woman. Let us live our lives the way we see it best fit for us. I don't force my sexuality on anyone and neither should a heterosexual. Neither should you force religion on folks. I do believe and love GOD, but I'm not gonna live my life in turmoil to please you or anyone else because you do n't like the fact that I've got a wonderful monogamous relationship with a member of my same sex. I'm gay...and your not! Thats the difference, we all contruibute something different to this world we live in and yet you want me to be just like you!!!
I will not do that and I won't be unhappy to make you happy. I really don't care what PRINCE said and how he may feel about GAYs and our rights. Prince has been the image of BI-SEXUALITY since 1978 and to this day, he still very much chooses to play with religion and sexuality. He is a great artist and my favorite of all time, but sometimes you just gotta play your guitar and shut the hell up. He's divorced twice, he hasn't always been a saint! He's a man, not GOD and no one has a heaven or hell to place me in. So serve your god and worry about your after life not mine. I'm gona live my life to the fullest and I ain't hurting no one. | |

Yes,it was somebody who said this about Prince . Maybe BIG CHICK. Then in his songs he says about Papers. And he says he JOHNNY ALWAYS WEARS a CAP Cause he don't trust PILLS. I think PRINCE should REFRAIN from JUDGING PEOPLE if he Does and I don't think he should say that about GAY MARRYING BECAUSE I THINK GAYS who are COMMITTED and ALL SHOULD have EQUAL RIGHTS with MARRIAGE and INSURANCE so that if one PARTNER is SICK well the other can help. Gay people also should be allowed to ADOPT CHILDREN if they are GOOD ROLE MODELS. A PRIEST in the CATHOLIC FAITH once said...WE SHOULDN'T JUDGE ANYONE. LET GOD DO THE JUDGING! I Love this place so many Nice fans. I Love PRINCE. His music is WONDERFUL. I really just want Prince to sue if they are LYING,because it is so BAD. I mean I KNOW it is Making him look bad and I don't want GAY FANs HATING on HIM. There isn't any hate connected to spiritual discipline. Homosexuality is wrong. People get beat at card games and get upset. U still love the player that has to leave the table.
