i would ask him when was the last time he went record shopping and what did he get.
then i'd try to figure out some hobby or interest he has that has nothing to do with anything prince-like, then have him go on and on about it for the rest of the interview. like apholstery. if prince were into apholstery, i would love to do a full-length 10 page interview with him on the topic. could you imagine? prince talking about fixing up old sofas? that would rock.

I would love to do one of those chronological album by album reviews like Robert Smith has done a few times where the interviewer holds up the vinyl sleeve or CD book and asks the author what they think about that particular work, the time in their life, what they love and hate about it, funny anecdotes, etc. For as fantastic a musician as he is and as much mythology as he's created, I feel like there's very little on record about his work directly from the horse's mouth. And it wouldn't have to be a nostalgia trip either - just an open, candid, fun way of honoring some really important art. He'd never do it though.

What I Want More than Ever is to someday watch like Videos with Prince of his Concerts and eat POPCORN and sip hot Apple Cider at Paisley Park. I should have told him that years ago. To be his FRIEND. [Edited 11/25/08 16:43pm]

Prince~Do U just wanna hang around somewhere, Be it an empty forest, a sandy beach, a dance floor, or a comfortable couch?
We could listen to George Benson and talk about all of the things U don't like 2 talk about. Or we could discuss marriage and talk about the days we won;t be talking at all. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Makes me kinda sad. I wonder if it's just a general disinterest or fear of his past or a concern that it'll blow the 'mystique' behind his work. For me, when someone like Bowie opens up and is really forthcoming about the art that influenced him at the time, the drugs he was taking, the clubs he was hanging out in, his social circle, the sounds he was going for, the fashion that turned him on, the writing techniques, the experiments that he feels that worked for him and the disasters that didn't - it only enriches the experience for me and makes him more fascinating and interesting. I'd venture that the same would be true with Prince. I mean, he's dogged "Parade" and "The Vault" quite vaguely and pumped up the importance of "Emancipation", like anyone who's got current product should do. But I'd really love to know if he still thinks "Purple Rain" is the shit or if it's played out. If "Lovesexy" was such a pivotal moment, why doesn't he play any of it live? There are a million questions really. But mostly, I'd just love to open up a dialogue and let him talk and talk and talk. I want to get as geeky as I know he can be.

I think about this (like I'd ever get the chance) and I have so many great questions but when confronted I'm brain dead. That's what would happen with me. If he were to trust someone enough to answer them honestly I would like to know: When you are in a crowded room, even if they are freinds and/or family, do you still feel alone or are you content?
Did you ever think you would reach this level of fame and what do you like and dislike about being so famous? [Edited 11/25/08 19:06pm]

I wouldn't interview him. We all know it's not his favorite thing in the world to do, and therefore not much would be gained from this type of probe. Not the best way to get to know someone. Doing Madlibs or something would provide more useful information about his personality.

I would have no interest in interviewing him, but would love to just talk. About life, God, music, so on and so on. That would be great for me. I used to write letters to him, but never sent them. Figured he would just think I was some crazy fan.

FREE THE JANUARY 1994 THE GOLD ALBUM CONFIGURATION

Can you still write to him at Paisley Park? I wonder if he would get a letter if I wrote him. I don't want to gush over his music, or his fame, I would like to talk to him about other stuff.
