What does everyone think of exodus

apparently it is really experimental.

what great prince songs are on there?

I wouldn't say it's overly experimental, but it certainly has that loose Parliament/Funkadelic-type edge to it. The songs/jams themselves are great, but IMO as an album it's kind of ruined by a lot of long segue dialogues. They're funny the first time you hear them, but after that, they're just distracting. Sonny T sings lead vocals throughout though you can hear Prince singing harmonies etc. It sounds like a pretty collaborative effort between him and the NPG.

"Billy Jack Bitch" from The Gold Experience is probably the closest song to reference in terms of the 'sound' of the record.

not exactly a "prince" album per se, as bassist sonny t. sings lead on all the tracks. prince can be heard on backing (or "co-lead") vocals on all the tracks though and he does hilarious voices on some funny skits. mostly real funky type stuff, not too experimental, but fun nonetheless. the best songs are return of the bump squad and get wild (check various live performances for prince singing lead on those and others), but i enjoy them all . great little album, if you can find it or for cheap .

It sounds as the soundtrack to a long form video a la 3 Chains O Gold.

You have an LP's worth of tracks (9 songs), interspersed with a ton of segues as was the fad at the time. 3 decent singles and lots of laughs. It's a solid P-Funk inspired album.

Standouts for me are Return Of The Bump Squad, New Power Soul, The Exodus Has Begun (amazing long Prince suite-like track), Hallucination Rain (the 11 min. version is better IMO), and 'Cherry Cherry', which I know a lot of people hate, but I love it's twisted Philly Soul.

This is the best NON-Prince album he's done. I wouldn't say it's too experimental if experimental at all The music is twight-like-a-twiger. The only downer track for me is Hallucination rain though some swear by it. CHerry Cherry is one of those guilty pleasure trax...the reast is GOLD! Lots of riffing and jamming on the trax. The Exodus Has Begun is rather epic is what I always said but someone else described it more accurately as "suite-like." The album as a whole has a theme and sticks to it. It's more of an album than a collection of singles. Just sit down and hit play and I predict you wont be skipping trax on it.

If you love prince, you'll love this album

I LOVE EXODUS it's a great album. The Segues are funny and GET WILD is on it. Love that period as TORA,TORA,TORA.

EXODUS is definitely one of the best Prince/Non-Prince albums he has EVER done - it is raw, funky, smooth, edgy, modern, p-funk reminiscent, crisp, and tight at the same time. I remember when I ordered this album on 1-800-New Funk and when it came - it changed my life. I couldn't believe it.

I've long ago made a new "Exodus" CD w/ the segues removed, so I just have the nine tracks back to back - must easier to play in the car, the i-pod, etc... and definitely makes it easier to appreciate the music.
