So what is the deal with the one deal albums? They are all discontinued or out-of-print. Musicology, 3121, and Rave, were all good and at least moderately successful. Why would he take them off the shelves after the contract is over with. Why wouldn't he just release them under his own NPG label? We have many gems and masterpieces that should be out there like The Gold Experience and Emancipation. Will these albums from 1995-2008 ever see the light of day?

I suspicion is it has something to do with homosexuality.

Not sure how, but I'm working the theory out right now.

I was thinking this the other day too. With the state the record industry is in (in terms of CD sales), the chances of getting quality reissues/remasters will become smaller and smaller, especially with his post-WB material which is scattered among several labels.

You can still buy those albums online mind you, so it's not like they're completely discontinued.

There's probably something in each of those deals that state that Prince can't release them on his own label until a certain time period has passed - though he obviously got away with distributing Planet Earth on his own, so it's possible that the person to 'blame' for their lack of availability is none other than Prince himself. Hard to say without actually seeing the fine print in those contracts.
