Question about album inserts Reading one of the threads recently, I got to thinking.
Am I the only one who actually READS the album inserts? Seriously, with some of them, there's a lot of nice stuff that is sometimes overlooked. The pictures are rarely overlooked (obviously ), but everything else that isnt seems to have its own artistic value. That's just my opinion. One of my personal favorites is for Come because of the picture on the cover (really sets a tone for the album) and the backwards/mirror message inside. It's brilliance in simplicity. And with some that include the lyrics, the way they're written is artistic. Like the way the purple rain lyrics are so beautifully scripted and how he uses the throughout the lyrics for Lovesexy. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Yeah I Do, but 4 me Emancipation wins hands down for its booklet/insert, the way he has written little notes 4 each song and the gorgeous pictures also Everybody's looking 4 the ladder

When it comes to art-design and photography, I want to point out the work he had done with Laura LiPuma; the vinyl covers of Parade and Sign The Times, for instance, my fave album covers/art-design/photography EVER. Well, by Prince anyways.

And I miss the playfulness ofthe design; Parade had a gategold sleeve; if you opened it up, both sides of the Prince tummies touched.

I've always read the inserts. I've always liked them...I thought "Rave," was pretty nice, as they were nice print 4 the lyrics...and "The Rainbow Children," I also thought was a very nice addition to the cd. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I always read them. That is the first thing I do when I get a new CD,even before I listen to it. [Edited 11/12/08 21:55pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

2 bad the liner notes of his latest albums don't come with much man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I don't think you're the only one. For me the Prince ritual started when getting home and turning the whole album upside down, before I even listened to a note. I even looked inside the sleeve to see if there was maybe something hidden. The little personal messages (especially Emancipation), the nice pics, the people who worked with him. I'm definitely a vinyl fan, those huge albums, lots of space to put things on, hmmm, CD's were so small compared to them, still ok though. I liked ATWIAD, Parade a lot, him thanking his patient mum on SOTT was cute, on cd Emancipation and the Hits. The pics he placed on C&D etc. I didn't like the Black album though

I remember when albums came out, reading the linear notes on the back and the covers were just as exciting as listening to the album inside. CD's are not as great but yeah, I read them eventually.
