Motherless Child 'Live'

I was just watching Prince's performance of this song, I think it was one of his greatest. What song do you think he performed best LIVE?

If that's the one from Vegas, hell yes it was spectacular and hard to follow up as a live performance. My other fav is D&P from the Special Olympics. Took my breath away. sigh dove biggrin

possibly my fave TV performance of his. He was reportedly pissed off that night and he channeled so much of that pain and emotion through his guitar. It's moments like these that make you wanna scream as to why he holds back so much now when rceording a CD. He just needs to let Jimmi's spirit come into the studio and tear it up!.

Ummmm...Motherless Child was done by Richie Havens - not Jimi Hendrix.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes, it's goes back a LONG way.... blues / gospel... Also, in Elvis's 1968 'Comeback Special' there's a segment from it... its so moving ... brilliant! That's why I couldn't wait to hear Prince's version of this... cool Oh, and LOVE Mahalia Jackson... Thanks for posting these biggrin

i was merely using Jimmi in the context of a guitar palyer who gave his all when recording guitar unlike P who now holds back until he plays a track live.

This performance was also right after he and Mayte' lost their son and their marriage was near the end. I think Prince was feeling so much pain during this performance, he just walked off stage afterwards. God he was
magnificent! worship
