Alex Hahn

Has Hahn ever made public comment on Prince's career since the rise and fall of Prince was published?

Would be intrigued to know Hahn's comments re the successes of -

the Musicology Tour
the groundbreaking Planet Earth newspaper deal
21 nights in London

to be fair to Alex he did engage in debate on HQ and I think on here. Also the point at which the book ended was just before the great comeback P. Personally I did not like the books negative tone BUT it sill had some great interviews and great information etc. I am sure that Alex would easily be the first to give P major props for turning his career around.

He did comment both on here and HQ years ago.

But the idea of the artistic 'fall' still stands, the successes you listed aren't artistic, they're commercial.

if I remeber correctly though the book highlighted 'the fall' of both these aspects.

Although he appeared to have interviewed extensively, I wonder why he took such a negative slant? I mean he seemed well educated. I am always interested in peoples motives.

I feel that Prince should write a book with someone and it should have his scribbles and photos and answer random questions. He needs someone who can stay up all night, go with the flow, young and pliable to interpet him and put it down on the page.

Or instead of question and answer, why not essays on this and that.

Just thinking outloud here.
Love wins. (Seen on bumpersticker)

Because he was the legal representative for Uptown when Prince took them to court.

I must say what I found amusing was right after this book was written Prince did take a complete turn around and did popularize himself right after the publishing. Maybe it gave prince a little kick in the pants. Sometimes you need to hear a diffrent perspective and take what u will from it.

Well put:)
eye hated the book! A COMPLETE waste of time! According 2 MR Hahn Prince's "rise" was from 1978 2 1988...his "fall" from 1988 2 the present!
How ridiculous! Prince NEVER had a fall...he's a whirlwind..unstoppable and just bcuz Prince stayed of the public eye and wasn't commercail doesn't mean Prince was unsuccessful. It cms the writer need 2 rethink his subject..it was negativity with little sugar frosting mad

Yeah, I never took to the idea of the 'rise/fall' concept. There were plenty of outstanding albums and ideas Prince made during that period. As a slightly younger fan than the norm (26 at the moment), Prince's music during the late 1990s/early 2000s was just as meaningful to me as Purple Rain and the like was to the generation before me. In another 20 years time, people will be kissing his ass when they look back and see what he did to empower artists.

You have to remember also that prior to Musicology, Prince was so far out of the public spotlight that it was much easier for people to dismiss him as a 'has-been'. Now it's the other way around. It's 'cool' to like Prince again.

Hahn thought that he could cash in on Prince by repping Uptown in it's legal suite against Prince. When that fell through he went and wrote the book. Hahn lost me as a serious journalist when he tried to get me through a PM to tell him about Prince and Troy Beyer's relationship/pregnacy which was public knowledge and he thought I was some type of insider.
