James Brown influence?

I was wondering ...does Prince ever refer to James as an influence? I mean he acts just like him in his performance and such. He copy's his dance and even the flashy suits. I always hear MJ refer to James as an influence but never heard Prince

So does he?

Listen to the song carefully. It answers your question, thus, relieving the rest of us of that burden.

Prince has acknowledged JB's influence many times in interviews and whatnot - the most famous example being the story of him going to a JB concert as a kid and getting the oportunity to dance on stage (which was subsequently recreated in the "Musicology" video) and being impressed with his fine dancing girls. His music is also full of subtle JB references - he even name checks him in "Musicology" and "2045 Radical Man" (and probably others that escape me at the moment).

Yep you got him...he is not so good as James though...its the playing of all those bloody musical things that spoils the copycat thing. Now if he was only to drop all this genius thing and dance like an entertainer then maybe just maybe he could be James, what do you think?

I can believe that Prince has also looked up to James Brown as spiritually influential, for his personal stand for Peace and harmony.

I think of the concert the night Martin Luther King Jr. was shot. and James Brown kept Peace in Boston as the rest of the Country was enduring uprising.

Talking shit? no no no!

Merely seeking to encourage the truiopians of the world to perform the minimal research necessary to answer their own simple questions without troubling others.

I even directed truiopian to a resource that would answer the question.

All part of my campaign to prevent the intellectual laziness already crippling Western civilization from similarly infecting the Org. nod

I don't think first influence was the question. The thread starter was asking if Prince has ever referred to JB.

:clap2: Bravo!

While your reply is eloquent, funny and spot on, gett off doesn't answer any of the questions of truiopian.

Wasn't the song 'Possessed', released with the video of the recording of the Purple Rain concert, dedicated to James Brown? When the credits are rolled out, the song is played and I do remember at the end it says so...

Open up your Musicology Booklet, and read the words to the title song.
It might help.
