Back to the Music....

Well, after all the controversy over the last week .... sigh.... I've been em...'recalling' and 're-living' ... cough, cough....some of Prince's live performances, from Dirty Mind all the way through to the O2 last year.

And, what I've decided is that I don't REALLY care what his personal views are, I don't particularly care what he thinks about religion, or politics, what he does or doesn't do with whom in bed, why his wives left him, or any of it really. Watching him perform, listening to his music, that's what it all comes down to in the end. He was born to be on a stage, he's one of the best live performers there's ever been. And, any of us who've been lucky enough to see him live know that, especially those that saw him 'back in the day' I would imagine, or in an 'initimate' after show situation!!

Also, just for the record, I don't care if the people in 'GD' think I'm a some deluded 'fammy' person, I couldn't care less about that either. They all know in their hearts how good a musician / songwriter / performer he is too - well, something must have made them join a Prince fan site in the first place !! lol wink

So, unless he's found guilty of child molestation or something equally horrendous, does it REALLY matter how deluded / weird or politically incorrect you think his views are? Or if you agree with them or not? I think we should just get back to the music, and the live performances, because that's the only thing that really counts - when he's on that stage, he totally commands it, totally commands the audience, plays that guitar like an Angel and casts a magical spell all around him, we all know that, and that's why we're there / here! No?

There you are hug So that's what you were doing lol

1) nod I agree on everything you said.

2) It's time we really shouldn't be caring about what the GD-ers think of us. First, we're all the same, second, what some of them write is 1000x worse than what we write in here and I've never read a post of them "oh sorry PM&M-ers, we're really not that disgusting as what we write biggrin "

3) Am I the only one that doesn't think he's deluded? He seems rather normal to me shrug I read so many strange things about other famous people. Seen his position I really think he's a pretty normal dude. And let's be real, who doesn't have flaws.

highfive Hey girl! No, I don't actually think he's deluded either (I said that to cover myself, because a lot of people here seem to think he is). I think he's done some 'strange' things in his time, but I think he's actually very 'with it' and 'aware'. He has his own points of view, and obviously he's been very taken with the JW thing - fine! But, no not any more deluded than a lot of us, and he's been in a strange situation for so many years. I don't agree with his point of view on a lot of things, but it's not going to stop me admiring his talent!

Y'know...I don't have any delusions about the guy. I suspect that, while he can be charming and hilarious when he wants to be, he's probably a bit of a prick if you're dealing with him on a daily basis. But let's face it - you don't climb to the heights he has without demanding a lot of those around you. And that tends to piss people off - especially when they think that any reflected glory that comes to them, belongs to them.

I think he has a right to his beliefs. I don't his once performing in bikini underwear and now being (or not being) opposed to gay marriage have anything whatsoever to do with one another. I don't think either of those things have anything to do with his music. (Though, admittedly, I would love to have been there for the nearly-naked Dirty Mind tour.) I think that what we see of him is a facade. In fact, there may not be anyone who actually knows the guy.

Back when I was doing TV, I dated a guy who once said to me (in the middle of an argument), "Y'know...you aren't anything like you are on TV." I said to him, "When I'm on TV, I'm on for four minutes at a time, doing the weather. What in the hell could you possibly know about me as a person?" In the same way, we can know a little about Prince through his music and seeing him perform, but we are never going to know about Prince, the person.

It is absolutely hilarious to me that people are saying Prince should come out and "clarify his position" on gay marriage. Who gives a rusty what he thinks about it? People who are "hurt" or "disillusioned" by how he may or may not feel about that are in for a helluva lot of disappointment in their lives.

So, yeah - I'll still buy the music. And I'll still see him live. In fact, I'm hoping some of these "hurt and disillusioned" people give up on him. It'll just get me closer to the front row.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

That's a great post Genesia, too many good things to quote! But, I didn't know you were once a Weather Girl now!! Very cool! But, yes, exactly the same when I was dancing for a living, people think they 'know' you, they conjure up all sorts of things about you in their heads from seeing you on stage, and then sometimes it's a let down that you're just a 'normal' person, or not some walking, talking 24 hour sex bomb or whatever lol

lol Well.... I'm just being modest, y'know.... lol wink

Thanks CJ! hug

There are so many musicians / artists out there, who's music I LOVE, but I don't know anything much about them, what they think, what their religion is, what's their attitude to gay marriage.... and why should I? It doesn't really matter, they're not running for President / Prime Minister, they're making music....
