You can walk into any record store and find most of the cd's selling for $20.00 bucks a pop. The only items selling for $12.00 are the items that are on sale.

The box set is no more expensive than other box sets that are out on the market.

I will not go into the fact that he is working for himself and not a large record label. It is a free market people. Prince will continue to charge high amounts for his products as long as people are willing to pay the money.
Get over it already.

Nobody buys cds for 20 a pop--

most box sets are deluxe editions and have added rarities, unreleased songs, different versions of released music, etc. A regular recent live set is not "box set" worthy... I mean come on.

So we have to pay the price for Princes "freedom" from the industry? I guess so huh?

Mr7

In the UK the average price for a single CD is £13.99, so I guess its reasonable value over here.

It depends on the packaging. Joe Kelley said that it was comprehensive and 'nice'. It has liner notes and commentaries by Prince and the NPG. It also has a section where Prince and the NPG reveal a play-list for their 'imaginary' radio station.

Joe hinted that NPGMC members names are printed inside. Something like 'the members get their props and a chance to shine in the booklet'. He said it was a suprise though.

Personally, I'd easily fork out £50 for a set of such quality. People spend much more on bootlegs without the quality and without supporting the artist.

However, I am judging this on average UK prices. I paid about £65 for Crystal Ball at Andy's Records. 'The Rainbow Children' on CD cost me £18.99.

That's how it is outside the US right now. So for us, its reasonable value. I've probably saved money by purchasing it this way as I've got 'ONA' (piano) and the concert perks for practically the same price, as the NPGMC annual fee adds up to about £65 english pounds.

Now that makes it worth 59.99 or half of the NPGMC club (sarcasm)

party You sound excited even in text! lol

I was thrilled enough to see my name in Controversy's Magazine back in the day! It would be totally cool...if he did though, wouldnt' that give away the number of members? Not sure if he would want to arm the media with such information...

What would be cool is the names of all who attended the week-long celebration! Yeah right. biggrin

I don't think it's realistic. He just might have printed the reviews that members wrote in to the NPG about the show. That's my guess, anyways.

Okay...lets go there.

I'm a member of the Tori Amos official site. It's free. I receive a monthly newsletter. I get to pre-order the cd at a discount for being a member. I get concert up-dates. She's actually playing where I live. I got to preview the Scarlets Week on the website. Each week there was the complete track of a different song. There was cute fluffy filler but it kept you interested. (Lets not forget appreciated.)

I'm a member of Everything but the Girl. They're constantly emailing me about up coming club performances. And they explained the concept behind there new cd, a greatest hits. Yet, there greatest hit a mixture of unreleased versions of popular songs, rarities, and unreleased songs period as well as sidebars and so forth. Oh wait, its free.

These are the two fan-sites I actively seek-in with and well, for being free sites, they treat you a hell of lot better than what ya paying for.

Prince played 2-5 Thousand seaters in US and Overseas... hmmm...

Prince will sell well w/ this box set, because its a live compilation and he's known all over the world, old and new, to be one of the best live performers in history!

Prince will also gain a new respect for his music, because he's giving ppl the opportunity to see how much he's grown and progressed since being free and out of the mainstream since 96'

but also away from the prince name since 93'.

Prince needs to promote this project through commercials and promotional ads in popular magazines and get some gigs locked on Television...perhaps ONA on highly rated network, I mean...sir paul and elton always work out deals w/ CBS and ABC, Maybe Prince will work something out w/ them soon to spread the word, because with all honestly, he's doing just fine w/out a label!

PRINCE IS DA SHIZNIT!

***I know I would pay it with no problem, but then again I dont have to buy it in the stores because I am a club memeber...now, one of my friends who likes Prince but wouldnt consider him a favoriate artist of theirs, they will not be going to the store to spend 60 bucks on a cd.
I kinda think the people who would spend 60 bucks on a cd is already a club member...i hope it does well.

It will B so so nice 2 get at last Prince's much over-do live set. This is just Prince at his best and I really hope that this does amazing 4 him. But with overall lower record sales as a whole in the industry...and at that price, many will B priced out.

Now 4 me and alot of U members or non will pay. Knowing the bigger picture...having been 2 that mindblowing display of musicianship we know what where gettin. But 4 the old skool who have liked him 4 years and wanted 2 get a Live-set long ago and who have lost touch with him on the music tip...dang I really hope Prince's media savy will B flowin at its best & up 2 par cause this really needs 2 B something huge 2 show all what "Live Music" sounds like. He deserve nothing but success when it comes 2 anything he does live.

Hes always has the highest of respect when it came 2 his live shows. He can make U like whatever U thought was just ok on record 2 saying "damn that song sounded sooo tight" hearing it live...thats his power...As well as some not even being true fans or what not, going 2 his live show and saying ..."I want more" " he put on the best show I've ever seen" type of reactions...thats his power~

So In a nutshell I hope his Live Power really sends a "must have and own" type of reaction among the media & fans...Even if don't contian alot of hits from his past dayz that alot of people like...I see the true music lovers & critics really giving this set high praise. But 4 such a long awaited first Live Set...I would have maybe made it easier price wise 4 your old skool fans & them boarderline fans 2 B able 2 say "hey its live and at a good price" type of thing. And also add that live set of his "Hits" Kiss etc...that way theres truly something 4 everyone.

Them fans whos been a bit out of touch will see that Live "Hits" disc and might buy it just 4 that then of course B more open and turned on by Meat & Gravy of ~One Nite Alone~ That just my dig on it~

Hmmm, according to the thread in the NPGMC forum, the boxset came with the ONA disc (or 4 discs in total). If I get four disc in the retail, I don't think I'll bitch anymore about the price--but the cynical part of me thinks that this isn't going to be in the retail version.
