Many people have a value system that keeps them from selling sex in any fashion so obtusely. For instance, would you work in one of those stores that sells SEX toys? I wouldn't want to. Would you sing about sex on stage? I once thought I would, but.... I also wanted to have kids some day. How could I be a role model to them and try to develop them into people with decent values when all they see in me is a person who says the F word for cash.

Prince is one of those people who didn't care what it took to make him famous. Even if he had to compromise some values by singing about sex.

I think that is one of things that we always have found interesting about Prince. There has always been this celebration of sex, while at the same time a search for God, and even in some songs a sound of regret that sex is so easily found and God is much tougher to find.

Well, anyway, that is my take on it.

That is only speculation at the most... I said it and it doesn't seem to add weight to your question.

Could the it be because Madonna has not pioneered into the independant artist that Prince has. Let's face it... Prince has pissed off just about everyone in the recording industry, and doesn't care what it takes to gain his freedom. This is one guy who would have killed his master to get his freedom back in the day. He wouldn't have played no... "Yessa' Massa'" shit.

But that is just my take.

The real reason is that sometimes things are just what they are. How did Prince define a decade of music in the eighties? I don't even think he knows. It was just one of things where his sound was in the right place at the right time. That is how stuff happens.

And yes while Madonna is an icon, she has not sought the creative independence and ownership that Prince has nor is she as musically gifted as he and therefore the record companies (particularly WB) let her run wild and free b/c in the end they are not suffering any financial loss or risk with her. I know P is doing fine money wise, better than a lot of artist that started at the same time but when I compare him to Madonna I just think "dayum that bitch really is savvy" or "dayum, why didn't P just brand himself back in the 80s/90s". Really good marketing and brand development like we've seen with Jordan and Madonna back in the day and Diddy/50 Cent now, appears to be the key to longstanding financial security and fame. I mean one can only sell so many records and tour so many times...you need something that keeps the money rolling in and your image on people's minds even while ur sleeping. But then again, maybe he never really wanted that.
