Madhouse - Tracks sound like they're skipping?

Hey, this is an odd question (don't know why it's posting in italics but anyway) but I bought a copy of Madhouse on vinyl, and played it at home.

When I got to the first track on the second side, it sounded like it was skipping constantly. Thing is, because the needle doesn't get 'stuck' so to speak, and because the whole album is an odd instrumental jazz/funk album, I'm not completely sure that it's not meant to be like that!

I can't imagine that it is, because it cuts up Eric Leeds' sax stuff, but I thought I'd double check on here before I send the album back!

After playing it through again, the second track on the first side does it a little bit as well, I'm well annoyed.

Strangely the quality of the album and cover is great, it doesn't look scratched in the slightest.

They were both originally released on CD as well as vinyl.

God I'm so slack, sorry I didn't even think to mention the album, it's Madhouse 8.

So track SIX is the worst one, where it jumps around, like cutting out drum beats and sax parts halfway through, and track two does a little bit too.

It sounds daft to even ask but you know what Prince is like so I thought I'd check!

Cheers

this used to happen with records sometimes, the needle used to glide sometimes...one trick to get round this was to put a penny on top of the needle to weigh it down...it depends whether you have a flat bit where a coin will balance though

You, my friend, are a legend. It has solved about 95% of the skipping! How weird is that? Just testing it on the other side now but I'm pretty pleased with it, though similarly confused and slightly annoyed I need to do it in the first place.

If I can get it nearly spot on I can burn it to CD and I'll be happy.

Cheers!
