America is a song written by hypocrites. "Crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea", white brotherhood they meant. Equality still doesnt exist and God doesnt show his grace to murderers and liars. | |

Ya know, it's been said that this song is supposed to be straightforwardly patriotic, but I don't buy it for a second. Yes, I know Prince is a lightweight as far as political and social commentary is concerned, but considering how critical he was then when the song was recorded and still is now of the powers that be, it just doesn't make sense that he'd come out with a flag-waver.
I read the song more as satire, or as a sly criticism. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!" | |
