Revisiting Musicology...

What a great album to drop on the world. Tight, tight, tight. I remember hearing "call my name" on some random radio station one night. I was set basck. Moved. Just like I was years and years and YEARS ago by him. It has been so great having him be such a force in music---current day. Particularly feeling "Life of the Party".

Thoughts? Feelings?

I agree it is great. I was actually more thrilled when 3121 came out than when Musicology did but I think Musicology has aged better. I tend to listen it much more than 3121 now. For me the title track is by far the best.

its good to hear people like "musicology " cus i never really got it ... i went to 3 shows - one of them with a relative "newbie" who really liked the album ... and i remember saying to him that "i didnt think it was all that " ... and he said "i disagree"

to me the album is disjointed ... but since "purple rain" i think most of his albums are ...

wink
Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

This was the first Prince album I bought and when I first listened to it, I could only go as far as Cinnamon Girl. After listening to that, I had to stop.

I was so disappointed with it... I was thinking "this isn't what Prince is supposed to sound like" lol
It grew on me after a while and it holds a valuable lesson. That true music is with real instruments and is written by the musician him/herself.

This album is a great collection of old-school music. My personal favorites are the ballads, A Million Days, Call my name and Reflection. cool
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

It was his come back. Not that I completely feel that there actually was one or he needed one. But, for lack of a better term of that time period in his career. As an old schooler, I was overjoyed when it dropped. And then the tour, that was a fun time. Nope, nothing like the 80's, and good. He successfully reinvented his shit.

the only tracks i don't really like off this album is call my name (finger mani) and what do u want me 2 do barf
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I agree. Not very comfortable with the phrase "his comeback", esp. in regards to P.

Looking back at it now after 3121 and PE its very very very safe. Just as safe as Rave...and that's where I'll put it...not bad, not great, just average..the live versions of the songs were better. The tour was awesome!

I´m sorry but I don´t like it very much. LOVED 'The Rainbow Children' and 'One Nite Alone...Live!' and was very disappointed with this follow-up. I like Dear Mr. Man, though.

OK it is no Purple Rain but it is good. Every song I enjoy even Life O' The Party. Cinnamon Girl lyrics made me shiver when I first heard them and Dear Mr.Man is soooo good. "A million days" seems to be lacking some bass though
