Prince's best soul-vocal-performance?

07. Avalanche from the one nite alone piano cd.

Could this track be among princes best vocal perfomances - listened to this in the car just the other day with my three children - quite loudly - and during the song they are very quiet, until my 8-year old daughter says, "wauw, dad, Prince really can sing with many different voices..."

amazing track.

Perfect Beautiful Song!

The vocal and piano arrangements are brilliant.

This is my favorite P political song. The themes of ignorance and avoidance are perfectly illustrated by the avalanche - lyrically and musically. The attention-grabbing shock of "Lincoln was a racist" force you think about the introspective lyrics (history will repeat unless you strive to understand cause/effect of it's lessons.)

I remember hearing it one time, and thinking it was beautiful...I guess they must've had it in the club on npgmusicclub.

I agree with your choice but 2 other great soul-vocal performance IMO are Soul Sanctuary and She Loves me 4 Me.

Way to many great vocal performances to narrow it down

However I would add that a great vocalist has great emotion in their voice and that is P time and time again
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

For me it is; Forever in My Life, the live Sign of the Times video/concert performance. That was sweet.

I think I would have to go with "Call My Name" if we're talking a about soul-vocal performance.

... and also Money Don't Matter 2nite.
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

it's been said by critics that Do Me Baby is it. i can see why, but the verdict is still out for me. I have to hear Avalanche now. but off the top of my head i'd nominate
