Obama is not our first black president


1. andrew jackson
2. abraham lincoln
3. thomas jefferson
4. warren harding
5. calvin coolridge

each had a black parent and or grandparent and great grandparent
who were black


back then and now applies 2 many of us one drop of black blood

makes u black

why r many thinking could Prince make it as our next President

i would think not and he is black as well

many pass as white act white and 4get where they came from
2 me its a shame not being who u truly are and proud of it

So purely for my own amusement and education, I decided to look all these guys up to see what I could find out about their ancestry. Sadly, most of what I've found is from wiki, and most of the info lacks decent citations, so whether it's accurate or not is anybody's guess. I suppose I could've subscribed to the US Government Records Access site, but that would cost money, which I don't have.

Anyway, here's what I found on wiki :

Andrew Jackson's parents were Irish - both from County Antrim.

Abraham Lincoln's mother, Nancy Hanks was probably (but unconfirmed) of Melungeon descent.

Thomas Jefferson was of Turkish and Welsh descent.

Warren Harding - wiki says 'One of Harding's great grandparents may have been African American', so unconfirmed. Although there are a number of references, there's nothing conclusive.

Calvin Coolidge - it seems the claim is that he is descended in part from Native Americans, through his paternal grandmother, Sarah Almeda Brewer.

Interesting stuff, although given that it all came from wiki, it's accuracy is debatable.



In any event, it appears that not only is Barack Obama not the first black president of the USA, he's also not the first Irish president of the USA.

You did know he's from County Offaly, didn't you ?

As a brit, i should leave well alone this topic area...but seriously, what does it matter if the president, is blue, yellow or purple....he is one person who is the leader of a policital party with ideals who the public vote for when called upon. His/her skin colour should be the least of anyones concern.

Lets see how he gets on when he starts in January....black or white or red or blue...its going to be how he handles the US and world affairs that he is going to be judged by.

I'm not going to engage in a 'he's black - he's not black' argument, and I'm pretty sure it was not mystifying1's intention or desire to facilitate that when she started the thread.

But if you wanted to add any credence to your assertion you might do better than to link to an article which concludes the opposite.
