B4 Prince's "Darling Nikki" caused Tipper Gore 2 create Parental Advisory Warning...

Did they always use the sticker below on "explicit" records? CD

I really do not know the answer 2 this question, but I would believe some music was released without warnings.

I can believe that with "Head," record producers were kind of keeping an eye on Prince.

I give Prince a lot of credit 4 having the courage to sing about what He wanted 2. When U become an adult, and U relize these feelings exist in the mind of someone growing into their sexual reality...It becomes easy 2 accept, especially along side of the loving spiritual nature that Prince has mutually been about.

you have tha wrong it was when Tipper Gores son or daughter was listening to Purple rain soundtrack( she was also stupid enough to sit her kids around some were very young, and MADE them listen to to the soundtrack like a5-7 year old knows wah tthe word masterbate means right:roll:) the sticker you see in the picture above in the 1st post was put on AFTER Tipper put the advisory into effect my album did not have it on the cassette either. And to answer ur question NO they did not put stickers on the albums before from my recolection.

I think that Prince speared this action. It was around the same time Public Enemy came out with naughty lyrics, but I think Darlin Nikki was the first to be stamped with the Warning.

I know they did not always, because i remeber buying 2 live crew as nasty as they wanna be at the age 14..and it had the parent adversey explict sticker way by then and the store still sold it to me. so this album(prince) tho to me atleast the sticker looks dated and orginal i believe it came out in 81' correct me if i'm wrong the 12 inch as posted. thats just how i see it u never know *some* records stores may have put a sticker like that on there some may have not before tipper lost her fruit loops. but i just looked this up on wiki and here is the date that offical sticker started, i was thinking it was before that cuz say purple rain album was out in 84.. so it makes since cus thats one of the albums that started her cursade i think the stick was before tipper cursaded for music censorship.
November 1, 1985, before the hearing ended, the RIAA agreed to put "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics" labels on selected releases at their own discretion. The labels were generic, unlike the original idea of a descriptive label categorizing the explicit lyrics.

yes jeffiner you're correct it was tippers daughter wink i remember hearing that. also here some context from songfacts.com

When Tipper Gore (wife of former US vice-president Al Gore) heard her daughter listening to this, she became outraged and started the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) to fight against offensive lyrics. Led by the wives of US politicians, the PMRC got hearings on the issue where musicians like Frank Zappa, Dee Snider and John Denver spoke against any form of censorship in music. Tipper was vilified by many people who supported the right to free speech, and no laws were passed restricting lyrics. The controversy did lead to a voluntary system where record labels put warning stickers on albums containing explicit content. In 1991, when Wal-Mart announced they would not sell any albums with warning stickers, many artists began releasing both clean and explicit versions of their albums.

I remember hearing years ago that although 'Darling Nikki' was the last straw 4 Tipper Gore (wife of former US vice-president Al Gore), it was another song that first set it off... 'Let's Pretend We're Married'. Those lyrics in the middle and near the end of the song was ahead of it's time, raising the bar high in explicit lyrics. Just think the best was yet 2 come with those lyrics. LOL!

I never did dig Tipper Gore's self at all. I just think that was all a bunch of hooey. She was just jealous because Al would NEVER be as hot as Prince was/is.

And I have 20 of Prince's cds. Only TWO have that damn parental warning on it! TWO! So someone is falling asleep at the desk to keep letting his music float by unstamped. LOL.

If teenage pregnany, abortion, and single parenthood is such a problem...Maybe the government would rather women masterbate. cool
