pickle did you just call me a dumb fuck???

first of all about guitar player of the rock band boston being an influance isn't my observation it came directly from prince's mouth.

prince said that one of his influances was guitar player of the band boston.

maybe the influance isn't obvious at first site but if you listen to harmonizing guitars on why you wanna treat me so bad

or you listen to guitar solos on dinner with delores ,
holy river...you'll probably come up with resemblance between prince and tom.

eric clapton is for instance eddie van halens biggest guitar influance but who could say it???

so pickle do your home work first before you call people "dumb fuck " because you know s*it

Sonny T. (Musical Mentor to Prince)
Freddie Stone (All of the wonderful Sly Stone songs.)
Terry Kath (The solo on 'Make Me Smile')
Amos Garrett (The solo on 'Midnight At The Oasis')
Tony Maiden (The great playing on the Rufus records.)
Carlos Santana
Jimi Hendrix

These are other influences I've seen listed but I don't hear the influence in P's playing.

Feel free to chime in and educate us if you can point out where you hear it.

Tom Scholz (Boston)
Brian May (Queen)
Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad)
Eddie Hazel (Parliament-Funkadelic)

im 1have to reread a lot of old interviews but i know i remember a fact that prince namechecked guitar player from rock band boston.
also prince as a kid liked very much to listen to grand funk railroad because of their guitar player.
also joni mitchel influanced some of his acoustic guitar playing style.

I remember hearing him say Hendrix & Santana. He says his style is more like Santana than Hendrix (whom most people associated with him).

Of the ones he worked with personally, Wendy probably was because they had that of chemistry. He'd said how he liked her on stage with him because her smiling made him look good giggle

I voted Obama.
Obama is leading but they will steal the election just like 2000 and 2004.

I hear the runs of Hazel and Santana in Prince's earlier soloing, though his Hendrix leanings have been a lot more evident in the past decade or so. I hear Brian May and Eric Clapton more in Prince's tonal approach -- particulary during the Purple Rain-Symbol periods, where his tone was the best, IMO.

Definitely Freddie Stone and Larry Graham (Prince slaps guitar pretty often, too) in some of his rhythm styles (in addition to Jimmie Nolen, of course).

And, as already mentioned, Joni Mitchell in his acoustic work.
