I Hate U
Papa AND: Purple Rain. You can actually feel his anger when he takes his guitar and starts playing. And when he sings "I could never steal U from another *WHAM*", "I know times have changed..." he IS sad, of course, but he is angry at himself for not being good enough for his friend, lover, sister, mother, ... whatever. He is sorry for being the way he is and he is sorry for not being able to turn back the clock and make things right this time, because he "only wanted 2 see U in the purple rain...". Darling Nikki has its anger too, though. | |

the whole planet earth album is filled with anger. Prince was getting pissed off at his fans 4 always wanting him 2 get back with the revolution or do a full rock album, so he set out 2 write a bunch of songs that was so full of crappy music proving 2 his fans, don't tell me what 2 write dammit   man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 | |

Gosh, if I EVER EVER dated Prince, I'd probably be the quietest girlfriend he ever had.  Y'all ever hear the extended mix of that song. The whole "I woulda knocked you off" part just curled my hair till I looked like Shirley Temple over here! Thanks for pointing that out, I just listened to the extended version again. It is scarey. The whole song is full of hate (obvously from the title) BUT the music is so beautiful and his voice is lovely, it would have been much better if the song was called I Love You and he changed the lyrics, the song is a bit disturbing, wonder who the unfortunate girl was who pissed him off big time. carmen electra | |

I have such a difficult time inturpreting lyrics. You guys really help with this. I think a song means one thing and  I'm totally going in the wrong direction. In the book "Prince Life & times" it states "Scandalous" was written for Kim Basinger, "Nothing Compares 2 U" & "The Beautiful Ones", Susannah Mevolin, so who is Darling Nikki about? I am sure there are countless others.
disclosure: It has been a while since I've really read dates so don't kill the messenger if I've made and error but I'm pretty sure that is what the book stated. I'm sure you will correct me if I've misspoken.  Thanks. | |
