Has anyone heard the new CD? I have his last one...it wasn't too bad.

I have his new CD 'Something Else' and I like it alot. There are some really strong tunes here...."Magic","Sidestep" and the disco-flavored title track are superb uptempo jams.Slower tracks like "The Sweetest Love" and "Dreamworld" are very impressive as well.I like the 70s vibe and the full-band sound of this album, which you don't hear on too many R&B albums these days.Robin even rocks out a little,on the songs "Hard On My Love" and the Prince-like "Shadow Of Doubt".It's a pleasant album....nothing groundbreaking or anything, but a nice, pleasant listen.

Granted he's no Prince, but I think he has a cool CD. He makes enjoyable contemporary music that is very retro. He also has some romantic leaning lyrics. I liked his last CD better than his new one and several cuts reminded me of Prince, but Robin has his own sound.

I like the new CD better than the last one lol The last CD ('Evolution of Robin Thicke') is great, but I always find myself skipping over the songs with guest artists (I generally dislike modern-day R&B albums that feature guest rappers and other artists). This new CD only features one guest artist (Lil Wayne) but it's not til the very end of the CD.I also think the new CD flows better, from one song to the next. It's very consistent.

I love Prince; there is only one. But Robin is a good musician in his own right, and he *can* sing. He's still a developing artist, and is a lot better than some others who may have more fame.Give him time. He respects the craft and keeps getting better.Plus his wife is FYNE!!! wink

Agree with everything you said.Robin is a very talented dude.I still think we haven't heard the best from him yet.

I have never understood how people can compare these artists that do not make even one uptempo jam to Prince. On most Prince albums, the majority of the songs are uptempo. And when the artists themselves want to say they were influenced by Prince, they need to take into consideration the type of songs that Prince made and the type of instruments he used, not just copying his voice.

Actually, compared to most R&B artists these days,Robin does alot of uptempo songs. His new CD is about 50/50 uptempo and ballads.

Ahh, I'm sold on this now. I loved his last CD, but the rapper guest-stars just dragged the whole thing down in my opinion. Let bruvas who sang, SANG.

Robin Thicke is becoming quite overrated. I don't dislike his music, but he shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Prince. Reporters should accept him for what he is: a decent artist during a time of crappy artists.

Every artist gets compared to those who became before them.Remember, when Prince first came on the scene,he was compared to Stevie Wonder,Michael Jackson,Sly Stone, etc. It's kinda annoying the way the media does this.

I guess it's an easier way to say that someone is a great singer / artist.

Not really. If they were influenced by him, then they were. There are no pre-requisites to being influenced.
