This is an interesting track to say the least
The lyrics get a little repetitive after a while, but I love his use of the Linn-drum here. The beat is just incredible and its catchy and after a while, it somewhat transforms and takes you on a journey with it. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Yeah, the song gets dismissed but IT rules

it took me a while to get into the song, on account of how un-interesting the lyrics are, compared to the others on the album , but the music is amazing, as many have stated, and his vocals well inspired, so i let the lyrics slide a bit . a nice track, if one of the weaker songs on an amazing album, but i like it...now . For all time I am with you, you are with me.

i like how the joffrey ballet did thier rendition 2 this song, it brought out elements of the drums i hadn't realized b4 but now it's a highlight 4 me man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The lyrics do get a little repetitive content-wise, but Prince's delivery of them is BRILLIANT! I can't help but sing along every time I hear the song...after which it gets stuck in my head for the rest of the day (a GOOD thing). Doin' IT...doin' IT... ā€ˇhttps://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

One of my favourite tracks of his full-stop.
I have never found the lyrics to become repetitively dull, in fact I find the joy is in their repetition (pun intended). IT consumes him and this I feel is portrayed perfectly within the song. Perhaps I empathise with the song and that's why it calls to me so? Heaven knows, my idle mind is forever consumed with thoughts of sexual encounter and lost opportunity. The odd thing about this is that, as typing, I hear the song so well and, guess what? I can actually hear the lead playing at the end. Almost note for note. So perhaps I'll go tell banishedone that there is a Prince song that has guitar work that stays with me. The isolation and turmoil I feel within this song may perhaps only be felt by those that can relate to it. Wonderful song and always a sad moment as it draws to a close. Life eh? In fact I am shocked that anybody can consider any song from SoTT to be poor. Not that anyone has said that in this post, just that I find it to be his most mature piece of work. A culmination of all that Prince was and would come to be, realised before he'd finished.

My favorite line is "With U I swear I'm a maniac."
Love this song. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

...just a quick note: I believe the drums on this track were done on the Fairlight sampling system.
Like the track. 2nd part is my fave with the vocal really distorted in the background. NICE! -----------------------------------------------

Also one of my favorites, it's a gem. Oddly, I always found it to have a "sad" but powerful vibe.

I've always dug the Pink Floyd-like tone in Prince's guitar solo. He had to be thinking PF when he layed that track down. the music knows what your motives are when you are making it
listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul
