How is it that "Prince" appears in both films?

"Scary Movie" and the similar "Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13?"

We all know "Scary Movie", released in 2000, was a big hit with a "Prince" character in the opening gag.

Now, what I didn't realize up until yesterday is that the film "Shriek -" also features a Prince character. Coolio plays the Prince wannabe complete with imitation Rasberry Beret intro music.

"Shriek" seems to have suffered by coming out after "Scary Movie." But --- both films were in development and I don't believe "Shriek" purposelly wanted to draw further comparisons to the earlier film. I believe both were just trying to parody "Scream" and other films of the ilk.

Prince wasn't exactly at his commercial peak when these films came out. Just an odd coincidence?

I though "Scary Movie" was funny as hell. And the little Prince-wanna screamed just like him.

"Help! Help! Aaaow!" lol

Well, now if you have premium movie channels look for "Shriek..." (I wouldn't pay a cent for it) and you can see a different parody of Prince, one that uncannily came out within months of "Scary Movie."
