I Would Die 4 U-extended version

I've always loved "I Would Die 4 U" and I really loved the concert video, but I get tired of listening around minute 15 falloff It makes me mad that it's so damn long because I really love the song and really want to listen to the whole thing giggle I think since Purple Rain-I've only listened to the extended version maybe three times in 24 yrs sad Still heart the song though wink

i used to tune into MTV when they played that long long long live purple rain tour video and i'd watch it and sing along EVERY DAY, at least once. i was like tracy turnblad dancing in front of the TV in 'hairspray'. lol

so when i got the single, which is very similar to the live arrangement, it was fun...for a while. now, yeah, it's a cool recording for posterity, but it's a little long to listen to unless i'm REALLY in the mood for it.

You people are Prince pussies!

Revolution era long ass jams are probably my favorite Prince things these days. I was elated when I finally got the 30-some minute, unmixed, raw, unedited version of I Would Die 4 U that the 12-inch comes from.

And I always liked the end of the official 12-inch version when Matt presses the "double" button on the OBXA synthesizer and does this super fat 3 note bass descending riff. I would play that song waiting for that part to come on.

I think a lot of my Revolution era fandom comes from the fact that I love the Oberheim Ob-X, OBXA and and The Linn LM-1 sound so much. They REALLY exploited that stuff to it's fullest, and it's still such an exciting sound to me.

I remember I felt straight up betrayed when Prince switched to the gross digital-ish Roland D-50 during Lovesexy.

Prince analog electro is dreamy.

i really can't take the burden of being princey pudenda. boxed ill

i used to have the same opinion, but i listened to that stuff so much when i was a teenager, burn out set in a LONG time ago and i don't have the patience to sit down with 22 minutes of "america" every day like i used to. now it's maybe once or twice a year for the marathon jams.

Well, America 12-inch you need to smoke a joint for or something. I'll give you that. It's not bad, but it can kind of be one level.

Love that America video version, though.

It is a great jam. I am just glad that it wasn't as dull and repetitive as the America 12 inch. OMG that is tough to get thru. I've done it three times. Once to hear it (America is one of my fav jams from that era), the second time to see if I was wrong about hating it, and once recently when I found it again and wanted to see if I was wrong for hating it. I wasn't.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
