I was about 16 years old when I first heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover", on the car radio, when I was driving to or from the beach with my aunt, uncle and two cousins. I remember kind of liking the song, even back then. Yeah, I know, I'm old. lol lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

i was around then, but as a kid livin in the uk in the late '70's with very little radio variety, u were kinda limited - rockers, mods or punks, (none of which our bloved P relly fitted in2 at the time !), when '1999' came out i put down my blondie and The Jam records and immediately bought the P back catalogue, and the ride began.

I remember getting it and loving it immediately. I was in high school and Soft and Wet had come out and it was so different from most of the dudes that was out at the time and I like the vocals. Bought and went over to my friends house and played it and have been into Prince from that moment on.

Wow! Me, too! 16 years old when it came out. Got the "Soft and Wet" single and was *immediately* hooked (well, I was hooked from hearing it on the radio first). I didn't actually buy the whole album until after "Prince".

Hi NuPwr319, Then I must have been 15??? I just looked at your profile and you and I are almost exactly a year apart.... It's amazing the difference in music that was played back then... from Detroit to Okemos (outside of Lansing). I think we lived to close to Holt back then....I'm glad things have changed....
