Now this is going to be some real horse shyt. I have satellite radio (XM) factory installed in my car. I paid a pretty penny for it to. I don't see how they will be able to get a "new receiver" in my car that is only 2 years old. I smell a class action lawsuit in the future if they don't find a way to accomodate all subsribers.

They do have an add-on so that if you have Sirius you can add XM channels and vice versa.

What kind of add-on? I'm a new XM Subscriber (we recently leased a Saturn Vue).

Hey gang,

I am starting an online topic to gauge the number of people who would support having a Prince channel on Sirius/XM. I will take the results to Sirius/XM and share with them the incredible demand that exists for it.

The newly combined Sirius/XM has other fully devoted channels for everyone from Elvis to AC/DC which airs interviews and concert highlights and spin off groups (which in Prince's case would include artists such as The Time, Andre Cymone, and The Family.

Please respond with your interest and whether you currently a subscriber. I think this could be an awesome thing!

Yes in July 2008.

They should be rolling out receivers next year that pickup both Sirius Xm, Right now you can get XM and the 'best of Sirius' or Sirius and the 'best of XM'. The reason why they haven't yet moved all the programming into one package is problems with the Sat signals. XM and Sirius send different signals so its impossible for my Sirius receiver to pick up both. When the the receiver comes out will be able to get both.

Also possibilities of streaming video in near future, but that will take somme fighting with the FCC.

The stock is trading near 25 cents. I believe it will reverse split before going up. The spectrum that they own is worth massive $$$ alone.

If you have XM now you will always be able to get XM in the future (plus the best of SIRIUS but not all of Sirius).

If you have SIRIUS now you will always be able to get SIRIUS in the future (plus the best of XM but not all of XM).

If you want both Sirius and XM you will need a new receiver, the receiver will be out next year. Ultimately, the XM and Sirius satellites that broadcast signals to the receivers were very different signals. So no incentive for them to merge the companies into one. I do understand also that they would like to keep both entities different, which means a ton of stations.

Personally, I can live with just Sirius but it would be cool to have all the XM stations.

You can get XM and the "best of" Sirius (best of meaning limited # of the best stations),

Or Sirius and the best of XM. Depends upon if you have a Sirius or XM receiver.

The signals broadcast by XM and Sirius are very different.

When the new receivers are released next year you will be able to get all of the stations from both XM and Sirius.

If you have a receiver now you will always be able to get XM and the best of Sirius or Sirius and the best of XM depending upon what receiver you have.

Of course that may change it in the future and they will merge all the programming into on family. I believe that is the ultimate plan.

oh well that is cool. I don't want any "add on" receiver so it is a good thing that I can continue getting XM. I have a cool looking car, navigator (in dash) that is also my radio/cd player/satellite radio. I don't want any crap clipped onto my dash.

Very cool. Yeah, I think most people would be happy with either XM or Sirius programming. Beats the heck out of regular radio. I love the GPS systems on the newer cars.

I haven't read all the posts yet but I think these things are heavily based on artist cooperation....you know what that means?

I'm not saying that Prince would have to be host, but I believe the artist and/or record label has to somehow be involved and approve everything, possibly even bootlegs. For example, Bruce Springsteen allows fans to bring in live recordings of his shows which they play on "E Street Radio".

You can subscribe through and listen through the internet. Sadly, though, the internet service costs the same as getting a Sirius radio (that you could play in your car or at home or as a portable), which allows you to access to the internet service for free, and it has less channels (all the music channels, though...in fact, one or two that are no longer on the satellite radio service). It still might be worth it if you're online often.

I read somewhere on 3121.com back when it was up that there would be a "3121 radio" coming to Sirius. That was all that I ever saw about it.
Prince probably doesn't think such a station would reach many people or is worth the time to get all the rare stuff together and play it.
In reality, I bet it played out like this: Prince calls Sirius after hearing one of those 'featured artist' stations (Buffett, Springsteen, Sinatra). Sirius says great, let's set up a meeting. Prince gets distracted by a shiny object and they never hear from him again. The vault continues to collect dust.
I'm sure there are some fan-built radio stations on the net that play great Prince stuff. The problem is, you're never going to satisfy all the people all the time. So in the end, you're left listening to your own mp3s DVDs and CDs anyway.

That sounds about right....smile

Yes, and since my last car was stolen and totalled, I really love that if some fool steals this car he better ditch it quickly because when I finally get my azz home and get to my filing cabinet, it is all over with, call my PD with the GPS ID, and they will pin point where my car is. It has several GPS chips on board, in the engine, on the car body and in the navigation system. They will be looking at grand theft if they steal this car. This is standard with Honda Civic with navigational system. You gotta like that. razz

In terms of getting Sirius this way, do you also get the specialty stations like the Elvis channel?

I get Elvis and Bruce Springsteen; I may get others but I don't know how many "artist-dedicated" channels there are. Don't the Grateful Dead have one, as well? I'm sure I also have that one, though I never listen to it because I am not a fan of theirs (I only dig the songs "Casey Jones" and "Touch of Grey").

Yeah they just added AC/DC and a channel for the Who so it is time for the true genius of Prince!

I used to have Sirius. A Prince channel would definitely get me thinking about another subscription. Especially for streaming Sirius radio over the computer when I'm at work.

And the great thing is that it won't require a radio because you can listen online.

Although you do bring up a good point. It would be important to make sure that the channel is available online. Because not all are.

Well I can tell you this. I have had a Sirius radio for two years and find regular radio unlistenable. I have never known any one to go there and then come back.

Oh I believe you would totally get the live tracks. That is the case with the other Artist-focused stations. There would also be interviews with some of the proteges,

Yeah, I doubt that Prince would make himself very available but if the tracks were it would be very cool. I am sure that there are some proteges that would love the opportunity to get paid for looking back on the olds days and introducing tracks.

On the Heart and Soul station last Friday, they had a special remix of Prince's music that lasted about 30 minutes. I am hoping they replay it soon. It was awesome!
