Your favourite Prince box set ( ...& why?)

based on music, booklet, choice of the songs & just overall,
which of these sets is your favourite & WHY?

Hits/B*Sides
Emancipation
CrystalBall
OneNiteAloneLIVE!

4 me,the packaging 4 the Hits/B*Sides is very classy. The booklet & labels on the discs look very simple but elegant.
Tho some of the b*sides would be better off had they been the extended versions.

ONA Live! is a great set,& 4 the money i paid here,it was excellent value.
Great book with fan reviews & experiences makes it personable 2 those whose thoughts r immortalised in the book. The music is superb, tho some songs from the tour could have been added like Pass the Peas in full.

CrystalBall is cool, love the cover & simple but cool labels on the discs. The music ...some brilliant moments.

Emancipation book has great photos & The Music could have been better in a 2disc set,but the 3 is nice,as u can make ur own edits of ur preferred version, which i have done.

4 me,probably either ONAlive! or Hits/B*Sides. (tho since ONALive! is new,im impartial 2 it)

SO...which of these is your favourite overall package?

peace
heart
Joshy

The Hits/B Sides

but that doesn't count for me so much cause even though it was my first Prince cd album (I had loads of others on tape previously), it had a lot of stuff I already had.

So I have to say, for new material and despite its problems...

CRYSTAL BALL.

I like them all for different reasons.

The Hits set was my first real glimpse at all of those B-Sides that I heard about but was not around at the time to hear. The liner notes from Alan Needs and the overall feel of the package is excellent.

Crystal Ball can't really compare to the Hits either from a quality of music or packaging point of view. Afterall, it's a collection of outtakes/remixes and is marketed as a minimalistic bootleg set. That said, I have a huge fondness for it for precisely that underground flavour and the inlay sleeve almost always leaves me with more questions than answers. Very cool!

Emancipation is a tricky one. As much as I enjoy the entire album for it's music, I think Prince grossly misjudged the balance. I don't find it inspiring that each disc lasts 60 minutes but rather frustrating that the true spirit of Emancipation gets lost in the haze. Again, the inlay sleeve leaves me with more questions than answers. It works...

As for One Nite Alone: Live, I think it's a superbly balanced selection of performances, great variety of new and old material, aswell as a surprising number of unimaginable gems. I actually think it is really focused on delivering something special to the FAMs and it succeeds in my estimation, even the booklet. For that reason, it is my favourite although it's defintely not the best of the 4 box sets you mentioned.

The Hits/B-Sides 3-disc set is my favorite. It's amazing how much music is on there!

And before that, I didn't have any B-sides on CD - even though they're edited for length, they're still cool!
