Ok, so I'm probably gonna get a lot of criticism for this, but what about Purple Rain and The Love We Make Purple Rain and The Love We Make are excellent songs, but through my Prince journey I've come to the conclusion that The Love We Make is, not only the new Purple Rain, but a stronger song than Purple Rain.
Purple Rain defined an era, it was Prince at his commercial peak. The Love We Make was part of a 3 disc album that didn't get nearly the attention it deserved. Purple Rain in general was a better album, perhaps because it was only 9 songs, but The Love We Make is so strong musically, so powerful, so filled with a message that to me it's his best rock ballad ever, even surpassing Purple Rain.

sacred is the prayer that asks 4 nothing man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

personally, i think there r many tracks from 'emancipation' that don't get the respect and love they deserve - 'friend, lover', 'somebody's somebody', 'let's have a baby', 'in this bed i scream'....

as far as stadium anthems go i'm still surprised that he never
performed "gold" anymore or chose to replace purple rain with it as the concert closer at least sometimes. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I agree that there are some nice songs on Emancipation that deserve a second listen-In This Bed I Scream, White Mansion, Somebody's Somebody, Face Down and of course the title track Emancipation-all are great tunes.

i don't know if i think it's BETTER than purple rain, but i do think it's definitely an underrated song of his and it could definitely benefit from a bit more love in his live line-up. i mean, if he can drag out "shhh" and "the one" from less popular albums and make them live staples, he can resurrect this song from emancipation.

Overall "The Love We Make" is a well-crafted and meaningful song, but that line about "wicked is the witch..." turns me off. [Edited 10/17/08 1:33am] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

All there is is "The Love we Make." You can't get anymore lovingly profound than that.
"Emancipation," is a great album. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...
