I'm convinced that Prince hasn't put the same strong energy into his music since 'The gold experience' era, which is 1993/94.
This doesn't mean I hate Prince today. I still like his music and am looking forward to his next 21 nights residency.

If u are not a musician, as I am not, I believe that anytime throughout your life, if someone asks u what kind of music do u like...If u are a fan, Prince's name comes up. Ya know what I mean. If u are a fan, Prince's name is never omitted from that answer. He is my number one answer!for a long time.

a person with an obsessive interest in and enthusiasm for something. Fan: a person who has a strong interest in, or admiration for, a particular sport, art form, or famous person. That is where the difference lies. Obsessive: preoccupy or fill the mind of (someone) continually, intrusively, and to a troubling extent. Interest: the quality of exciting curiosity or holding the attention. One allows clear unhindered thought, the other leaves no room for rationale. One allows for the freedom to evaluate a subject and praise or criticise it, whilst the other sees people enslaved and controlled, either by theirself or others. So Will The Real Free Men and Women Please Stand Up? [Edited 10/16/08 2:05am] where is the definition of diehard fan? man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I consider myself to be a Prince fan....but get this....I'm about as far
from "obsessed" with the man as you can get! And I don't even pretend to have the considerable knowledge about him as most of you do, but I honestly don't feel a need to know him inside out either..lol But I do enjoy most of his music and respect his genius and always will...and that in a nutshell is what makes me a fan. However, lately he's been a bit off-track....get back in the groove Mr.Prince If and when you wish, of course

I've been in the Purple Man's corner since the beginning...there was a time that I thought I bled purple, but I grew up and realized that despite how much I like his music, I just cannot make myself like EVERYTHING he does..he has put out some shite in his day...some headscratchers...and conversely, some of the most brilliant music I've ever heard...
....but then, I came to the Org....and some folks here make it seem like if you don't drink his piss (you know, because he pisses excellence) you're a poser...you're not a true fan if you don't live and breathe Prince...and what really blew me away was that most of the abuse was coming from people who were born AFTER the Purple Rain era....I was listening to and repping this dude when folks were saying he couldn't carry MJ's jockstrap, and now, because I didn't think every single song on 3121 was manna from heaven, I've got some 20 something calling me out.... Bottom line, everyone has their level of fandom...no right or wrong in it...I agree that if the only reason someone comes to the Org or any fan site is to diss Prince, then they need to find a new diversion in their lives....but in the same vein, if all you do is praise the ground his heavenly feet hover over, you might be wanting to find some new diversions as well.... IMHO....emphasis on M!! He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

Although I consider myself a "new" Prince fam, I'm qualified. I enjoy his music and am immpressed by his profssionalism. I am entertained by his persona and intrigued with his his life story. I think he's sexy and handsome.
With each new CD purchase I am taken on a musical, lyrical, spirital and life journey, while it might be Prince's it's also mine. He so rare and I'm glad I found him.

When I first got here over a year ago, I knew NOTHING about Prince except for the following:
He was a musician truly dedicated to his work. A neo/modern-day Mozart that was a force to be reckoned with and had a stage presence unlike any I'd ever seen. The people here know Prince and his career inside & out, so I was in search of a messageboard site like this where I could learn all I needed to know about him. Some have labeled me as obsessive and fanatical when I first got here. Unlike the regulars here, I had no deserve to own everything he had released or every bootleg that escaped the vault. Music isn't meant 2b collected, it should be experienced and enjoyed. Though some albums are impossible to enjoy or experience too often (I think I have only one or two that I find "impossible"). In the chatroom, one person was criticizing one of my friends, saying that she wasn't a true fan. This coming from someone who owns just about everything and has a superiority complex. People think Prince is bad? He made Prince look tame in comparison, not that I'm one of those many who believe Prince has a problem with his ego In response I wrote: I define a Prince fan as someone who knows a decent amount of information about his life, as well as the names of his albums and songs. But what really defines a true fan is someone who owns a few albums of Prince music and knows more songs than just his singles. Knows that he has done music before and after Purple Rain the movie and soundtrack came out.
Those who I thought aren't true fans simply come here to complain about him, saying how he hasn't done anything great lately and rarely take the time to say anything decent about him even if they have to go back quite a few years. At the end of the day, I enjoy all kinds of opinions on Prince. I've had earfulls of people who complain that nothing he does will measure up for them. Some of those people who are the most adamant, I want to challenge them, saying that if nothing Prince does is good enough for you, either stick to the past, keep your mouth shut or find another artist to dog and stop bringing everyone else down who still enjoy his music. The fact I'm starting towards the end and working my way backwards gives me an interesting lense to look through. How everything he had done up until this point is just part of his journey and don't so much see a degradation of his music. I'd also like to clear up that although I get some enjoyment out of his recent material (including Planet Earth, which I STILL think is awesome), it doesn't mean I love everyone he's done after all, Prince isn't perfect. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I still break my ass trying to get his new shit as soon as it hits the racks, but I don't drink the purple kool-aid while listening to it, trying to convince myself that everything on it is the greatest thing since sliced bread... ...but I still do a fair amount of recruiting....gotta get 'em while they're young...
