Dennis Rodman and Howard Stern were there? Are these really the type of people Prince wants at his shows. They seem like the opposite of anyone he would ever want to have a conversation with or hang out with.

People talking on their cells is annoying I agree. But the idea that it's interfering with his sound system is a lie. I work in a hospital, and I know that cell phones do NOT interfere with medical equipment unless you are within about 5 feet of it, and then it's not too big a deal. I haven't met a Doctor yet who didn't carry a cell on them. Prince just doesn't want anyone taking pictures or posting videos on their phones.
I recently attended a few concerts where just about everyone had their cell phones up, just like lighters in the old days. There was no interference with the sound, and the artists (Elton John and Sheryl Crow) were gracious and having a laugh with people holding their cell phones up.

I'm no expert whatsoever, but I have heard that claim before. Apparently it can prevent backstage from talking to those doing the lighting and things like that. I'm firmly planted in denial

You are at a fucking PRINCE CONCERT. $1,000 tickets. Put down your fucking crutch and enjoy the reality you are physically in. When people get on the phone they are temporarily leaving the reality they are in as if they are too good for where they physically are. Do I make sense with this? Like being on a date with a girl who can't put her phone down for 5 minutes. Hello!? I can take the hint.... You'd rather be with the person you are yapping to than with me. Am I alone with this sentiment? if he/she is on the phone every five mins i can understand leaving them right at the dinner table after u finish ur meal and let them pay 4 it and walk right out the door man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I hear buzzing & beeping in my stereo system whenever my cell phone is around. I also hear it in my regular telephone, car stereo, and guitar amp. It's not constant, but it must relate to the phone looking for a signal, or receiving one, so it happens every so often, sometimes very often. I have no idea about a sophisticated setup like Prince must have, and he's not that close to the crowd (say more than 10 feet) but with multiple phones at a more intimate setting I could imagine it would be a problem. That is why I asked about the digital ones. Because I too work in a hospital around sensitive monitoring equipment and you are right, the doctors have all the baddest IPOD phones and blackberry's and they never turn them off and no interference. I have heard that the old analog phones were a problem because they shared same frequencies as the equipment... but nothing about the digital phones. Cell phones are so yesterday! The urge people have (including me) to look at it to see if u have a message is so humiliating. I enjoy turning it off everyday for work and I try to keep it far away from me at home and I never answer it in my car.
I use it for figuring out where and when to meet friends - so for real world stuff and also for driving men crazy texting them dirty messages Nowadays the only free people are the ones without a cell phone. 18 August 2007, O2 Arena, London

Anyone hear Howard Stern's rant about the entire concert being in the dark.
I love Howard but this was awful from the point of view of a Prince fan. He started having a fit about yelling about the lighting (I assume there was some light but just not enough for Queen Stern). He kept calling Prince an asshole. His new wife was embarrassed but sadly, nobody called out Howard on this shit. It was a free concert, I assume. Not sure how the charity aspect played into it. Howard kept saying he got the invite from Randy St. Nicolas who has photographed him many times.

He's just trying to start shit where there was none to start. As for the cell phone issue, yeah they told us to turn off the phones for the sake of the equipement before the charity show and i did it. When the aftershow started a few hours later, I had my phone on cause i used it during the break and it didn't affect anything but it didn't matter either way. Oh they didnt make that annoucement before the aftershow. I've heard of cell phones interfering with certain electrical parts. They tell you not to have your cell phones on during a flight or at least before the plane lifts off the ground so it makes some kind of sense for them to have asked us to turn cell phones off. Plus, we were VERY close to the equipment as it was. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

What Howard should realize is that he is best when he is honest and not having to try to hard to impress people. He is such a child. I'll say this as a hardcore Stern fan....if Beth divorces him, she has earned every damn penny putting up with that pain in the ass!
