Stuck between Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, Sign O The Times, , or The Gold Experience. Each album is so diffinitive in style and I could not imagine Prince existing without any of these albums made. Missing any other album, I may not be a fan. but these albums FORCE me to be a fan. These 4 albums seem to be the pinnacles of their periods.
I guess to name a baby though, I suppose I would have to say bcuz it was the first Prince album that I really sat down and listened too and deciphered. After that, I went through all the albums.

When summing up your answers, the top list goes:
1.Lovesexy 2.Sign O the times 3.1999. Well aren't we back in the 80's one more time... Odd nodody mentionned The rainbow children. My pic would be PARADE, without a doubt. 1986 saw Prince at his highest level of creativity (music, side projects, shows, style, and the shadows of this cherry moon...) to my humble and very personal opinion.

My baby? Probably Symbol.
It was the first Prince album I bought. I remember thinking at the time it sounded like there were parts on it where he wasn't even trying + still managed to blow everything else away. It was through this album I discovered ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy etc...

"Parade" and/or "Emancipation: Disc II"
Parade, because of Under the Cherry Moon and because it reminds me of a warm time in my high school years, right before college. Emancipation, because it reminds me of everything sacred between a man and a woman...LOVE!! Tina (~!~)

Dirty Mind was when Prince still didn't fully have pubic hairs on his sac. I go for SOTT, because of it's overall artistic depth--then Purple Rain for it's eclectic wonder. but I adore them all.
Prince album is for super geeks. All you others say Hell Yea!!

First of all let me say that not only do I rate an album by the songs on the album, but I also rate it by the b-sides that go along with it.
With that said, my favorite Prince album is Around The World In A Day. It has been since the day it came out. It is the most powerful statement by any artist when at their peak of popularity. Prince could have wrote Purple Rain Part 2 and sold another 14 million copies, but he didn't. Any other artist would have repeated themselves, but not Prince. He was saying something way back then to not only the record industry, but also music buyers. That you have to be creative and risk taking. Stretch your boundries, expand your narrow mind, grow. The album started out entirely different than Purple Rain. The song ATWIAD tells you that you're going to take a mystical trip that you won't wanna come back from. Paisley Park shows you how life is, and how we all really want it. Condition Of the Heart leaves you empty and alone in this world, while Raspberry Beret takes to back to that wonderful place. Tamborine is there to remind you not to forget about the fruits of life. America once again show the good still outweighs the bad. Pop Life tells us that no matter what, we all just want the little things in life that make us happy. The Ladder shows us that we dont' live in a utopia but will someday (if we're good) get there. Temptation reminds us that temptation is the very reason that we may not be able to climb The Ladder. Hello? What can I say about Hello except that still probably his most staight forward personal song. It's perfect.. But that's just my opinion. MJ 'nuff said. "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.
RIAA 'nuff said. | |
