Which Prince album is most visceral to you? You know, the one that you hold on to so dearly that you almost feel that it's yours? It's the one that you will defend the most ardently and the one for which you feel wronged if someone disses it.

Mine is "1999." It is responsible for my exploration of music. Without that album, I may not have fully gotten into Prince, which means I may not have fully gotten into music. "1999" is an old friend of mine, the kind of friend you feel that you have known since birth and the kind of friend with whom you keep regular contact and on the rare occasions when contact isn't regularly kept, the next meeting feels instantly familiar and comfortable.

I declare myself one of the official defenders of "1999" on this site. You betta recognize!

I try not to show favoritism but I'm partial to "Lovesexy" and "Sign O The Times". But as far as defending an album and introducing it to people, I've had a lot more work to do with "Lovesexy". SOTT is universally loved.
