"It Ain't Over with INDIGO NIGHTS." "It Ain't Over with INDIGO NIGHTS."
Friday night at about 7:00pm, these two cd’s joined each other in a Jam Session with me in my living room. The songs mentioned will be commented on in the same order the player shuffled them 4 me. The first song played was, “2 Nigs United 4 West Compton,” and I had my pen and paper ready to jot down notes. During the previous days I had listened to “Indigo Nights” three times, so I was immediately critical of the sound not seeming to have as much clarity. At least that is what I initially heard. Then came, “The One,” I’ll just leave the listening love 4 this song alone, because it was my heart’s quiet novel. “Beggin’ Woman Blues.” I smiled all the way thru. So great and funny. Whoever the guy is that is laughing was; underneath it all, my favorite background vocals of the evening. Mr. Ah -huh…adds the spirit of “Yeah, I agree.” “Whole Lotta Love.” Hey, very cool, especially the chime dust. Okay, sub-absolute zero. Sazzy cool. Love “Rock=Steady.” What a groovie=groove. What it iz. What it iz, what it iz. “Girls and Boys.” I enjoyed the Indigo audience participation and the hornz steal the song. I remember back to a thread posted on prince.org, that was titled, “Prince songs 2 whistle along with.” This song is one of them, always has been 4 me. Interestingly, “Girls and Boys,” “It Ain’t Over’s,” version followed, which I believe was the better version of the two. Why? Sheila most likely, or maybe it was just the thrill of that night. “All the Critic’s Love U in London.” Funny. This song keeps a giggle going. I love the English girls talking at the end of the song, especially when one girl just says…..”He’s Prince.” “Satisfied,” Enough said. “Satisfied,” was cut off after Prince says, “Wait, wait.” I laughed when the next song played was, “Joy in Repetition,” with the opening line being, “How long U been waitin’?” I said to myself, about 9 seconds of airspace and then I was captured listening to this song and it’s sentimental mood. At this point of listening to both cd’s, my mind’s heart is saying it couldn’t have been a better blend so far. “Peach.” came into the track list here sprinkled with Renato’s beautiful piano solo. “We Do This.” Awesome. George Clinton. Love the raspee flava. I sat here thinking, “I wonder what George’s hair looked like and all that I could picture was some kind of Rainbow blast with funk highlights. “Just like U.” (Monologue.) Prince and all of the members of both sets stand out in their own way holding their hand as professional players at the performance table: Candy, Mike, Maceo, Lee, Larry, John, Sheila, Greg, Shelby, Marva, Rhonda, Beverly, Renato, Morris, Josh&CC, Nandy and Maya, and Prince. I liked Prince’s sarcastic sliver of Zoanthropy, which was understood by the animal in me. “Baby Love.” Love it Baby! U know that I do. “3121,” came on and grabbed me at the get go of the song, reassuring the fact that as a Prince and friends’ lover, I will never leave. And Yes-I wanna come. “The Medley.” Love it. “Alexander’s Rag time, The Entertainer, and “Music, Music, Music.” I just adore Prince’s vocal on this frappe. Shelby’s, “Misty Blue,” is beautiful, it gave my butterflies the goose bumpz. This girl can sing. Then I decided to flip through the “21 Nights-Book,” (Again,) that is here on my coffee table to re-notice an ounce of disappointed criticism about the light along side of Shelby’s cute photo, I wish that the flash reflection was dim. Same thing with the spot in between Lee and Greg. Mike, Lee, and Greg all look so nice in this picture, too bad Mr. Ghost is in the photo with them. Flip the page backwards one and you will see that Mr. Ghost has flown into Shelby’s hallway stealing the top of her hat before trying to hide in the ceiling corner. I appreciate, “Funky Dunky,” must’ve flown in from New Orleans. Love the, “If U Want Me 2 Stay, Just friend’s Medley.” Great Sunny vocals, Great song. “Dorothy Parker.” Love it. Love Rhonda’s bottom and the Bongo’s. Beautiful Piano. It’s Saturday morning. When I was thru rewriting my draft, I noticed that I had five songs missing. I went over the two lists of the songs that I had already commented on to find the lost songs that I remembered hearing, I just didn’t remember where they were in the line-up last night. I’ve got “21 Nights,” on again. Here are the comments I had missed. “Song of the Heart,” and “Delirious,” are relaxed pieces. It is comfortable listening to Prince talking to the crowd. “Alphabet Street.” Fun. The Londoners get a glimpse of imagining Tennessee. “Indigo Nights.” Pure Jazz Fuzion that keeps the fragrance of “3121,” lingering. And what is the Answer really? 2 the Question of Me? When it comes to Prince and Friends Music~Live…”I’ve Missed U.” When it comes to Prince Music~live in my living room….”I’ve Always been there.” “The Everlasting Now.” not much more 2 say, as the crowd chants 2 the Tambourine…. “It Ain’t Ova!…It’s just the beginning of a long, Standing-Ovation. Eternal Cheerz 2 Prince and the Band. My Friday night in a one room monkey cage turned out to be dancing with friends and a pen, So, I will leave this wordy concert as the door “Slamz” on my “School of Funk,” report. (!) Tame. P.S. Prince~ On the Pink side, “U can Keep Me Satisfied.” [Edited 10/11/08 17:01pm] "The Lion Sleeps Tonight... | |
