Recording for posterity - what does it cost to have a vault?

I just stumbled on the quote from Dr. F. about "Turn It Loose":

"recorded for posterity’s sake"

This sounds strange, doesn't it - you record something with no intention of publication...

Anyway, I wonder really what it costs Prince to record a song outside his PP studio:

Studio time: $$?
Recording engineers: $??
Equipment: $??
Musicians (if any smile ): $$?

Does anybody know how much this comes up to, say for one day of studio work?

biggrin biggrin

it all depends on how much time u book and what a studio can charge
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

It doesn't have to cost Prince anything.
I'm sure he can do it all at home.
If he wants to use a commercial studio it could cost a few thousand a day.
Why does he care?
It's not about a return on the investment . .
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
