Purple Rain GOLD CD? So, as has been discussed here, the entire Prince 80's catalog really needs to be remastered. I have Purple Rain on CD and I think it sounds janky compared to the3 Vinyl. Sign "O" The Time is the same way.
Yesterday my friend asked me, "Wasn't there a GOLD disc of Purple Rain?". We had been talking about how we both thought the DCC Gold remaster of Metallica's Master of Puppets was awesome. I honestly didn't know the answer. I have never seen one, but today I was googling around and it seems like there was one. This number 43P2-0004 keeps coming up in reference to it. But I can't find it for sale anywhere or even a picture of it. Does anyone know anything about the Purple Rain GOLD CD? [Edited 10/7/08 15:03pm] [Edited 10/7/08 15:04pm]

My friend, who I was discussing the possible PR Gold disc with initially just sent me the following email after viewing the ebay auction I posted:
This might be one of the flat masters, which were part of a batch of discs from Japan that a lot of Audiophiles are after. The deal was that they are exact master transfers and they have NO compression or filtering. It was early on in the mass CD making process and they hadn't developed any standards for their manufacture so they would just do straight transfers from the original source 2 track stereo tape. People started complaining that they were too quiet and thats when they started compress/limiting the masters to make them louder.
Does anyone have this disk or have they heard it? [Edited 10/7/08 15:12pm]

Well, my $9.99 silver plain Purple Rain cd plays just as well as that gold one, I'm sure.
For 500 dollars when I play it, Prince better come dancing out my closet nekkid and reenact the movie with finger puppets or something. 500 dollars. I can spend that and get a damn good seat at a Prince CONCERT! I'll waiot for the next tour. I love a Man who:

Well, considering it's a Japanese import, I think it's safe to say that it most likely sounds better than the 'regular' version It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Well, considering it's a Japanese import, I think it's safe to say that it most likely sounds better than the 'regular' version only if it was remastered. using gold doesn't change the bits and has absolutely no impact on the sound by itself.

It's not the gold that affects the sound quality, it's the mastering itself, Although the gold cds may be more archival, I don't really know. Some of the early Japanese CDs were mastered without compression, apparently, and sso this makes a difference. Also, the gold CD may be an intentional better quality master.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
