Okay People...Let's have it....

Seeing as how a few people are seemingly disappointed with the quality and content ( NOT me of course ) Prince and Randee have produced....
Let's hear some suggestions as to what U Grumpies think the book should have contained as in pics and so forth, that would perhaps coerce u into going out and buying a copy...
Make it nice please biggrin

Good one! I love the book, I think it's quite 'stylish' and 'coffee table-ish' BUT if I was to choose ?? lol Lots and lots of pics from the shows, the aftershows, the audience going mad... hot, sweaty, real! Really showing what the atmosphere was like. REAL backstage pics, people getting ready, like they actually do, ie rushing around, bumping into each other, fixing make up, gulping down water, (or maybe it just isn't like that in Prince world?! confused ) What else, oh yeah... people milling around before and after the shows, the Thames, the boats we crossed over to the O2 in, or sailing back down the river at 3/4 in the morning.... Prince in his hotel room wiped out, or partying with the others somewhere... stuff like that I would have LOVED! But it's obviously never going to happen so....just dreams! And, if it had been like that, I would have spent HOURS pouring over it, looking at every detail, drinking it all in.. as it is, I've flicked through it a couple of times, but you know there's nothing to 'find' or 'spot' in the background, or that anything exciting is going to jump out at you the next time you look at it, because it's all been airbrushed out! I also would have paid a FORTUNE for 'real life' stuff like that!! wink

I don't look at a product and wish something was there that is not there, I accept what is there and have my opinion.

I love the time elapsed photo's and I love the still city photo's.
I appreciate a soft focus effect, althought there are a couple that make that effect throughout the book a little overdone.

Keeping in mind that I love the majority of the photo's and I have a critical nature when it comes to photography, my main complaint is in the picture with Prince toward the end as He is leaving a doorway...The fingerprints and the light reflection on the glass is equally as attracting to the eye as Prince looking gorgeous on the right-hand page.

When Your eyes scan a photograph, a light should not catch your eye first, it should merely be an enhancement.

With group photography, if two people do not look very good, throw the whole picture away...And I don't like the picture of Chelsea at the end of the book..I just believe there had to have been other choices. I like the last page with Prince's hand on the door, although a group photo at the end would have been nicer 2 see.

To say it again, I do love most of the pictures, and I am someone that would buy Prince's product anyway...No body has to worry about losing my sale... cool

what the book truly should have been about..the concerts and the aftershows. not pictures of some hotel where he was staying or a shopping spree with the woman in the band.

how there is not one full picture of that symbol stage boggles me
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

See...lots of people want to complain but it seems that very few want to offer something constructive to their complaints....

I think there should've been more shots of the main and aftershows.

The book looks entirely too staged.

I would've loved to have the book look like the Booklet inside the ONA Box Set.

There should have been pictures on stage from every show, and some aftershows.

They should have comments from Journalists in the book as well.

Yeah, I just thought the pictures were too staged and there weren't enough on stage pictures.

Even Prince himself said that they looked too staged.

That was a great booklet, wasn't it?
But the two eras (2002 & 2007) are most likely different.
He was fresh of new directions in his music then, and he just wanted everyone to share it, people and fans included. That's why he put out a triple cd set accompanied with a stunning book of very cool pictures with fans in attendance, from main and aftershows, while Prince was performing and all.

Now Prince is somewhere else. I mean, in his mind he is. I think when he said he would have liked to a have a document of his residency in London, he meant it in a very personal way. I may be ignorant, but who's that woman with him on the balcony? The one on the bed smiling in the two black and white pictures, surrounded by various objects displayed on the sheets? This is just an example.

The tone of the book is strictly intimate. And he wanted it that way.

Well, that's my opinion.

Yeah, I think there's an interview with Randee here where she talks about going through the pictures with him, and he said that he thought some of the pictures looked too staged.

I thought this book was gorgeous! It pulls you into the 21 nights experience. Like A journey of pictures. The song lyrics of planet earth and other poetry pieces flow nicely throughout. Beautiful!

One thing caught my attention. There is some poetry near the picture of the maid in the hallway holding a cleaning bucket.

"Space travel, we're not moving at all
eye look in your eyes and start to fall
clothes unravel Bolivian paper doll
if u dont bounce we can have a ball"

Curious does anyone know who is this Bolivian girl he is speaking of?? Very sensuous lyrics rainbow

Idon't have the book, but i think (as is said here before) that the foto's look to staged. Unlike some folks here, i am not physically attracted to the man. What i like is his music and his performance. So the book would have to contain live photo's (main and aftershow). Photo's of the stage (in different light-compositions). Prince getting transported to the stage etc etc. And then please accompanied by 2 cd's. one with songs from the main shows and one with songs from the Indogo.

i think what a lot of peeps wanted was candid, natural P.
of course i understand that randee doesn't roll like that, she said in one of the innerviews that set up shoots r her bag. also i guess P may feel that paparazzi type shots might b seen as justifyin or encouraging that type of thing? also in defence of the style of the book, i suppose there wasnt much point in doin a similar thing 2 'the sacrafice of victor', or 'hawaii', (both of which i prefer tho').
there does seem 2 be a real lack of 'joe public' in the pics tho'. i'm guessin that was part of the 'isolation theme' of the pics ?
and the limited amount of pics of the performances might lead one who didn't kno, 2 think that P spent 17 of the nights in london driving around in the back of a mercedes shopping for all the designer gear randee needed for the photo shoots!!
