Tastes differ, but Mr Goodnight is a CLEAR example of the sort of music that has kept my faith in Prince down since the middle of the nineties.
Mediocre songwriting, boring arrangement, a bland R&B sound, and annoying lyrics for a 50 yo. To put it simple: nothing to be proud of for Prince, one of his worst songs ever.

Funny how you expect your opinion to be treated nicely as you diss ours in the same sentence. Why visit a thread titled "i LIKE Mr Goodnight" if you don't?

PE is going 2 grow on a lot of people in due time.
I remember hating TRC. I put it away after the first listening and never played it again. After joining the org., I would hear everyone talking about this cd. I gave it a few more tries, still didn’t like it. One day walking and this big smile appeared on my face. It was one of the best highs I have ever felt behind some music. (This also happened with Chaos and Disorders) I couldn’t believe how this cd made me feel. I felt good all over. I even had pep in my step as I walked. It has become one of my favorite cd's. I find it very up-lifting. Mr. Goodnight makes me feel that way. I love how it flows from The One U Wanna C 2 Mr. Goodnight then it flows right in2 the Grammy Winning Masterpiece, Future Baby Mama. "Oh yea" Mr. Goodnight diffidently makes me feel alright just listening 2 it, now I can continue 2 dream of such a thing really happening

Then don't expect any respect yourself either.

optimus said: LizaWoman08 said: We dont have to get angry all I said was it didnt sound like a rap to me Yes but thats like saying Adore is a dance tune This clearly depends on how you're defining "rap". Optimus, if you are referring to rap/hip hop music, then no -- from day one that song has never come across to me the least bit like rap or hip hop music. There were R'n'B artists that did this kind of thing years before rap/hip hop music reared its head. Talking and rhyming is not automatically defined as rap/hip hop music. It would be far different if we were trying to claim that Jughead was not rap. That would be a pretty hard one to defend. I will say by dictionary definition, what P is doing in Mr. G is "rapping" to the girl (talk or chat in an easy or familiar manner), BUT that does not make it rap/hip hop music. That would be like saying Barry White was a rapper.

I'm really not sure why you're getting so upset about this. You do realize that other people have opinions too. Just because you insist that Mr. G is rap/hip hop doesn't mean that everyone else should agree. I did say that he is "rapping" to the girl. I'll agree with that much. But that does not mean the song fits into the rap/hip hop genre in any way, shape or form. P has said that he sees Irresistible Bitch as being an early form of him rapping. That still doesn't make that song fit into the rap/hip hop genre by any means. It seems that we're clearly going to disagree on this topic no matter what is said. No big deal. I'll still enjoy the song.
