At first I thought the relationship was over!!!!! But than after he started in on his guitar solo, I knew she would forgive him, cause a good song always wins over an abused lover eventually--Prince is so clever like that. I do feel that he should have reserved his slap for Ingrid Chavez though. After sitting through just 2 seconds of her poetry, I think everybody in the audience wanted to smack her. | |

A lot of folk here are forgetting this is a only a movie... The character he plays needs to be prone to violent outbursts to reflect those of his father, so that these traits can be in some way be 'resolved'. This is the essence of most stories. Conflict and resolution.
When I saw the film as a young teen, I didn't draw the conclusion Prince beat up women in real life! Still, I was surprised by the act. But wasn't that the idea, to shock? I'd be horrified to find this scene and others cut to appease the political correctness of today... the same goes for him 'cleaning up' his songs. That was then, this is now.
