When you first saw Purple Rain, what was your reaction when Apollonia told P that she wanted to be in the other band and he came up and smacked her? That part caught me by suprise, I totally wasn't expecting that. Do yall think he was being (as his character in the movie) a little to harsh or did you think she deserved it? I'm just curious what ya'll think.

When I first saw it in 84-I was shocked but over the years it has become something else Somebody on here even made a gif of it But it fits perfectly into the movie-his struggles with not taking on his parents dysfunctional behaviors.

In the story he was pissed coz Apples joined Morris's group.

He was behaving how the father in the story treated his mom. Abuse is a continual cycle if not recognized and stopped.

Why would Apples "deserve" it??? It's disgusting for a man to abuse a woman.

He's a, cocky, misogynistic, selfish, spoiled, overly sensitive, over reactive, creepy, spooky boy in that movie, oh, I'm sorry and of course abusive, and demeaning.....(might I add "dangerous").
It took years until I could watch that movie all the way through...USA channel came out with a censored one and I could watch they left him hitting her in it but cut it so you really didn't see it, just heard it....
The cool thing about it is how he expresses himself with music....without music the movie would be hideous and trite.....
It fits in perfect for Hollywood.....

Funny,the first time I saw it,I don't think I thought anything of it. Of course at the time I was probably paying to much attention to him to really notice anything else.

I remember when I saw it at the premire....There was a gasp in the audience....Every little thing that P did on screen got an over the top type of reaction though. To me, then and every time I've seen the film, I've always thought P looked totally natural hitting Apollonia. It fit Prince doing that. He looked like he had that Napoleon complex thing going on cuz he's short and shit. He started to backhand her again later in the film and he looked hella natural there too. U could see it in the brutha's eyes...He looked like he's been there before.

And then walked the fuck out WITH the guitar. That would have been his just reward for hitting a woman. Granted, I fully well know that Prince was "acting" and we all know here that P has great acting chops. That's evident in G.B.

Unless I missed something I read on here somewhere that Prince did in fact tie up girls in the basement of his friends house and stuff.....and you don't think he's capable of hitting someone???? Please.... no one has that big of a guilt trip to go JW and holy R than thou. than someone that is truly stuggling with himself and trying to resolve his feelings about things he has done.....It's in his genes...he has seen it in his early years between his parents.....he's got some tuff odds to beat....(no pun intended) and he even acted it out in a movie very very well....just saying.....

If he was raised by anyone or around anyone that was abusive to women..... even if he wasn't he's capable of hitting a woman....that's a fact....he may be religious but that doesn't make him immune to being human...and falible. Being around it at a young age is an up hill battle .....it's just the odds...he may be a genius at some things....it isn't an insult to claim he's not above us all in all things. I'm sure he's broken a law or two as well....(alert the media ) We're talking about a guy that dances around in his underwear in front of thousands of people and has done drugs (something I read about the black album) and who cares if it's written anywhere or not....my lord....what are the odds back then or now??? More people find religion in jail these days it seems...there's a reason for that....a lot of reasons ...yes acting to get good behavior and desperation and redemption....I personally think he's trying for redemption....that he just has to settle with his conscience..... There are many many currupt people inside of religion....they are not obsolved in any way or being "special" in any way...other than their own way of thinking.

Does anyone really believe that in all of Prince's life the only drugs he's ever taken is on ectasy tablet???? and why???? based on what??? We have no proof of anything....it's all rumor and second hand info. What if Prince did hit a woman??? Would your feelings change about him??? Do you think you'd hear about it if he did???? We don't know..... Look even he is questioning his own lyrics and behavior and on and on...on the internet. He's trying to change his image or whatever... I would get from that that he's not to pleased with himself. He won't even sing songs with the "bad" lyrics in them anymore.....He's trying to make good on whatever "mistakes" he feels he's done in the past.....and he's cleaning house!!!!! why...we only know what we hear...but dosen't it just seem to some he's being extreme???? First, hitting women is not acceptable. Nothing warrants that - nothing. You have the option of forgiving or just plain leaving. If a women is assaulting you, then defensive restraint is justified, but that amounts to basically wrestling and holding.

Second, I think it's ridiculous that we're supposed to believe that she bought him a guitar and he hit her after only knowing each other for a matter of days. You're just not that emotionally invested in someone that quickly.
