Were the performance scenes in PurpleRain mimed? or were they really playing?

eye no that its playback over it on the film,thats a given...but on location,did The Time & Prince & The Revolution actually play those songs full on?

always wondered.
same 4 Kid's dad playing piano in the basement.

Couldn't say for certain (coz I wasn't there)

But normally when you film stuff like that
the performers will be 'performing' for real
except without being plugged in. That way you
get the best results.

Of course they were mimed.
The original concert was the first time Wendy eer played with them live (at 1st Avenue).
The real footage shows Prince with his sweated out hairdo, he would never release that officially ever.
Also, the Purple Rain songs that were recorded live were edited. Baby, I'm A Star has this microphone tweet that they took out.
