Prince played his lil purple part in corrupting millions o minds...

..so it's understandable he's searchin' 4 redemption..

Must weigh on him pretty heavily considering it was largely deliberate.
Pity he can't take it all back..although he tries pretty hard. smile

Right on! I chuckle tho, when he calls it 'pushin the envelope'..
If he must use an envelope analogy it should @ least include sealin the envelope with his tongue dartin' in out insatiably...things like that. Rippin' it open...like an almond joy... U know lol

If anyone should be upset, it should be me...and I have forgiving him all under conrol. And I pray Prince will forgive me as well. Love makes people crazy.

Don't even ask me what I mean...It would take a novel to explain. cool

Oh great, another moralist. Are you an adherent of the Bible, Mr Big Stuff? I hope not, because that has more suggestive and sexually explicit wording and imagery than Prince could ever try to put out there.

What, do you think that the world was just one happy, moral place before Prince came around? Or was it the 60s? Maybe you should concern yourself with your morals and let others worry about theirs.

Prince was trying to go after some of that Jim Jones money.

OOOHHH 2 SIDES OF THE ARGUMENT...THIS THREAD BOUT TO GET JUICY

OK my twocents
Let's not 4get that teens and pre-teens are highly succeptible and thereby easily corrupted. Yeah parents bare the brunt of trying to keep them uncorrupted but if you got a lot of forces in your way, music being one of them, your job is going 2 B very difficult. There's a reason why advertisers of all arenas target youngins for everything from music to food to clothes etc. I don't think tho that Prince is feeling any responsibility for corrupting people thru his music but I think he just feels uncomfortable at age 50 singing the way he did in his younger years and I think the JWs have influenced how he projects his public self. However, when the shades are drawn and the lights are down, he the same freakydeaky he eva was IMO. So here's something to bite on...
IF PRINCEY CORRUPTED MINDS, DOES HE HAVE THE POWER TO UNDO THAT CORRUPTION OR ARE OUR MINDS ALREADY DAMAGED - FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING OF COURSE.

Sorry about posting on this twice but this just drives me crazy. Do you honestly think that people were perfectly willing to withhold sex or perhaps not even thinking about sex until they heard Prince, or any other musician one day? If so, than YOU are the one who has a lot to learn.
Here is what you need to learn; people just want to have sex. That is all there is to it. Sure, there are a few out there with no interest, but they surely are not going to be influenced by Prince.

Good point you raise and yeah i know you are asking BigStuff this question but you gotta give Princey props for making sex appear a lot more intriguing and fun than your regular backseat bang.

my friend in highschool back in 1996 was the most innocent girl you could meet. Then she got into marilyn manson and started dressing, talking and acting like him - swearing, sleeping around, drinking ect. Talk about night and day transformation - all from listening to m manson. How many others get corrupted from music? too many to count.

i just listen to the happy cool stuff. I haven't heard much of the "nasty" stuff. That's probably why I just started liking him. I never heard the unplayable stuff on the radio so a lot of people don't know about that part of his history. You have to buy it. I've read some of the lyrics on here and just like the songs that I don't like...I just stop reading or listening...it's hard to believe he ever wrote that stuff but I don't know in what context it was given.....wasn't there.....

This thread is interesting. We all have our opinions on this one. I can honestly say that I first heard Prince @ 9 yrs old and the song was Do Me Baby lol Now I don't know about you but I know at that time there was no other artist that even came close to expressing sexuality like that except for maybe Rod Stewart and that's another thread giggle A young mind is very impressionable. I'm sure I wasn't the only kid out there just waiting for Prince to make another record just to hear what he was gonna say lol He may not want to admit or claim it, but he did help to shape alot of minds about sex and his way was a good way. I agree with the other poster that said Prince turned sex into something more than visions of backseats-he did it well.

Hell, yes, it was enlightenment. It was very enlightening.

We must have very different ideas of what corruption is.

Oh I get it now.... I spent a lot of time out of the country during that time. On an island that had no television and only one radio station that only played soca music. I personally can't listen to his music where he sounds like he's doing something to himself or someone else and talking all nasty. It's creepy and I turn it off. I hear it on the computer radio sometimes and it shocks me....I see him differently than that. I certainly don't want to listen to his voice while I'm with someone!!!! totally creepy!!!! What guy wants to listen to that when he's with his girlfriend??? It would be like me having to listen to Beonce singing all sexy and stuff.... yuck....and listening to it alone?? OMG it's just creepy....no one talks to me like that unless.there's a body attached and I know them very very very well. lol If I had a boyfriend and it was his voice??? I'd be toast!!!! lol

Why take it back? He did a generation a favour and a service by being so open and free. He's done nothing he needs forgiveness or redemption for, and it makes me very sad that he seems to believe he does.sad

I'd call it his schtick. Now that it's not working as well as it used to, he's trying something new. Problem is, there's a lot more out there that is a lot more interesting & people don't care as much as they once did.

yeah, he corrupted me and i'm glad he did. I was already headed towards being a pervert before i became a prince fan, he only helped. Now i don't feel so lonely in saying many "wrong" things are soo much fun precisely because they are so "wrong". It's the best part of life for me, when i'm freaky i feel the most alive although it gets me into trouble, it don't hurt nobody but me.

What is art? Just stop and think about this. WHAT IS ART? Was his mission in life at the time of those lyrics and moves to corrupt? He was just doing his thing, what he felt passionate about. It was the way his talent was moving through him at the time. And, it seems he is whistling a different tune now, moving it though differently.
And please, listen to what is playing on the radio these days. WORSE, much worse. We are talking about guns, and drugs, violence, and female submission. Was prince doing that? In fact, he was anti-drug. And not just one artist, 1000s and millions more children and teens than back in P's hard core time are listening. THE MAN IS FUNK. FUNK IS SEXUAL.

Agreed. Music has enormous power. It moves us, and sometimes may go as far as putting 1 in2 a trance like, hypnotic state. It's at this point the artist is able 2 'preach' whatever they choose in2 our subconscience mind.
