How is it strange? He asks her, "Can you take me for a ride?" He also talks about being lonely and asks if she'll accept his tears for the fare. All of that suggests a dialogue to me - rather than a violent attack.

Yeah duh, but I wouldn't think its consentual to take your aggression out on someone either. For the purposes of this song, there is neither rape nor consent taking place. I like the song but it does sound freaky creepy and I can see why some ppl would imagine rape. Others I guess would imagine just a rough romp in the cab with no money for the poor driver. Just a bruised pussy

You've never had angry sex? Seriously?

It can be pretty amazing - and when it's over, you usually aren't angry anymore.

You never done it with someone where you don't care what they feel just what you can get out of it? Hell, sometimes me and annie are like that!

Just because Prince has the spoken part doesn't mean that the cab driver (and why do we assume that's who is being fucked when we have no positive evidence of it?) isn't getting what she wants from it? For all we know the guy in the song could be a gigolo and the words we hear are his inner monologue. He may be the 'used' one in this song.

Good topic this by the way. Unusual for the Org.

At which point in the song do you think he came? Not a pervy question but a serious one. I think he has a multiple (unheard of in men surely?) that starts at the point where he says "4 U have 2 live". Every blow after that seems to be a new ejaculation or at least a thrust to send it home.

You can actually hear the release of emotion and cum (sorry) as he tails off. It is closer to an actual orgasm (mine at least) than anything I've ever heard.

The song is Prince perfection for me.

Like the 1999 album cover thread, (which probably gave u the idea to do this thread) this too has been discussed on here. Many times actually. As far as the song goes, to me, it's one of my all time favorite songs by Prince. But none of the reasons why I've always dug this song has jack to do with the little interplay between Prince and J.J. But dealing with that since this is what this thread is all about; This song, like 95% of all of the songs on this album is about dominating, loneliness, sex, wanting to please and to be pleased, anger. Many times on this album, all of those elements can be found ALL in one song. Prince is many things, but one thing he has never been is stupid. Prince is though very savvy and he's a master at anything that has a double meaning. That has been littered all over his earlier work. Be it religion, sex, whatever. That said, from the performance of P's and Jill's interlude on LCD, Prince is fully aware of the connotation that this gives off. Prince is not naive. Far from it. He's VERY knowing in anything that he does. I believe P walked that fine line in producing a sound that could border rough sex and rape. To listen to Jill, and only Jill, she sounds like she's really into the fucking. She sounds like the sex she's having is making her feel good. Like she's on her way to having an orgasm. She does NOT sound like a woman who is NOT enjoying the sex. She does NOT sound like a woman who is being violated against her will. Prince on the other hand, he does sound like just from some of his tone, that it COULD be just aggression he's taking out on her. The "This is for and that is for" represents that. It's the TONE that comes from Prince that could evoke he's forcing himself onto to Jill. It could be seen by some as rape and then by others, it's not. And P knew that. Again, it's that duality. The way Jill sounds supports that it's just good fucking. The way P sounds like it could be aggression or aggression that went over the line. It's all about perception. And that differs from person to person. It's not like P hasn't ever mentioned rape or provoked rape before. Extra Loveable. BUT again, that song was written for Vanity 6 to perform. So it's not a stretch with all of the gender switching and role reversal that P used to do during the time of this album that it was intended for Vanity to say "I could be very cruel. Don't make me rape u". Just a scenerio. Again, P is very knowing in the things he does. Most of it is designed to where it CAN go either way. That's intentional.

I must admit that i also have/had 'double feelings' about this song.

At one hand, its one of his best earlier funky tracks, on the other hand the way he is adressing his frustations while he is f**&ing the lady in the song almost sounds like a rape attempt.

But,when you think about it, its a song that 'fits' in the line of songs Prince was creating around that time, meant to provocate or even shock, songs like Sister, Head and Jack U Off, you can 'feel' there is some tongue in cheek-humor involved, and that he is playing with expectations of the listeners.

Nonetheless, in retrospect i consider those kind of lyrics a bit immature and silly, maybe perhaps because other artists since then have come up with even far more blatant and banal lyrics (2 live Crew, for example).

One of them song threads, maybe song of the day/moment, can't remember. I like the groove too and his extra falsetto voice but yeah that ending. Whoo!! You gotta be in the mood I guess. At least he sounds sexy. He sound like a whack ass corn nut on Extra Loveable where he does use the word "rape". I think back then it was just a joke thing - like the entire 80s. falloff
