The Rainbow Children is Prince's last great innovative album. Prince does music for himself and challenges people to come along for the ride. His music is not for those that enjoy the same old thing.Purple Rain was 25 year ago I am sure we wouldn't what to hear that over and over for 25 years i think we have been hearing the same old reheteric from that album 4 the past 25 years in his live shows and tv appearances man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

At Prince.org: Rainbow children
Rest of the world: all albums since batman are underrated (except maybe for D&P: overrated) [Edited 9/29/08 11:57am]

after my conversation with Alan Leeds, I am starting to think LoveSexy might be a little over-rated..
I mean, I really love it...but I think it grew into a "Legend" over the years that it really wasn't at the time of it's release. as Alan said.."it was a missed opportunity..."

I do agree with a lot that's been said so far here (and disagree with some), but my personal choice is Musicology (even though I dislike The Rainbow Children much more)
It's not the worst, but for something that was a commercial success and seen as the big chart comeback after years of doing no major promotion and only selling to his existing loyal fans, it's a big stale mess for me. My least fav of the last 3 albums and I never listen to it. D&P is a funny one. The singles are stellar, some of the non-singles are amongst my most played but I cannot listen to it as a complete album. I don't know if it's the track order, but there's something about all those songs as a collective that doesn't mesh too well with me. [Edited 9/29/08 14:05pm]

It's odd that Prince "came back" with such mediocre albums, and yet it makes sense, as D&P and Musicology were the easiest listening no-nonsense albums he'd done for some time either before or after. Song for song they may be better than his more interesting albums, which I much prefer! My Legacy

Definitely 3121.

First of all the following are NOT overrated
Lovesexy, Batman, Gold Experience, Diamonds and Pearls, 3121, Musicology or Planet Earth, ATWIAD and as or Parade whhhhhattttt!!!!! These albums are all classics, leave them alone. What is overrated by Orgers is The Rainbow Children, parts of it are alright, but its too experimental and the material is a load of hyper protestant sexist, anti semitic and homophobic drivel. And whats up with the Love for Symbol, it just daft and it hasn't aged well at all, its cliched clunky beats, self indulgent frock rock and amateurish rapping by Tony Moseley, only Sexy MF is enjoyable and the Morning Papers and Continental listenable. I think NEW Power soul maybe too, but the overrall opinion is pretty negative from fans and non fans alike. And what about Rave, its so overlooked, does anyone know it existed, its actually quite good. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

I don't wanna be a hater but, I guess most Prince fans just pretend 'Rave' does not exist By the way, the most overrated Prince album to me is '3121'. While 'Lovesexy' is awesome, I couldn't live without 'Lovesexy'. [Edited 9/30/08 3:00am]

It's not even a top seller and I can see why. I'm the only one of my friends and colleages who have this cd and wonder why? Because he was P and tha's my boy I bought it without listening to it first. If I can go back, I wouldn't buy it. Til this day, I don't even listen to it. It just collects dust. TERRIBLE! Just HORRIBLE! That is the worst.
Chaos and Disorder is far from being overated. Only some die hard fans love it (me inluded). I read so much hate for this cd here I just can't believe it.

I remember learning in a poetry class, that a certain poem may not strike the same chord in me as it strikes someone else. There was a poem about a woman that had lost her mother. A girl in the class was very moved by this poem, however I was not, My mother is still living. exactly! I thought u liked eggs. I thought u liked me.

This is so easy 4 me...
'The Gold Experience'. It's hailed as his best post '80s work, yet it has three, possibly 4 good songs at best... with all of those damn seques... "He's a musician's musician..."

Hey, if it was so bad, why did so many people talk me in2 getting it when I said I wasn't even interested in it? Couldn't agree more with ur take on TRC , if u take out the tracks with Tony rapping, it really isn't all that bad. It's become one of my albums. And poor, poor Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic The first time I heard it, sure, I didn't quite get it. But I spent a week with it to see what its all about It's really not all that bad, at times, very enjoyable. But I pretty much like everything I own BUT TRC [Edited 9/30/08 8:38am] had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Overrated on the org or just in general? On the Org, I'd say Dirty Mind and I agree with you on Lovesexy. I like two song on there. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.
