Dang PFunk-rippin' om Lovesexy's missuse of the English language...That drives me crazy sometimes as well. But back 2 the subject at hand. I've seen Prince accept gifts from time to time but ususually he just declines them...I always thought that he just doesn't want to take a chance that the gift may be spomething that would harm him. Anything wrapped as a gift I've always seen him decline...I remember specifically at the LA show earlier this year. One of his security guards placed a gift on the stage during the soundcheck and Prince just gave him a smirk as if 2 say, "U know I ain't gonna take it." And it stayed on the side of the stage the entire night...So thank U 2 the woman who painted that picture of Prince 4 me...Nah, just kidding I didn't pick it up...

At Rotterdam (Nighttown) someone gave him a rose and a what looked like a card (?) - a large one at that! He said thank u and left it on stage. Whether Takumi his bitch picked it up later on and took it to him is debatable!

I made a gift for Prince, I left it on stage at the Manchester gig in October. A week later I got a call from a member staff at the Apollo offering to return it as Prince didn't get it. I did ask his guitar tech to pass it on and he said,"No, you'll have to ask someone else" I wish he he had picked it up, Prince would have really liked it.

He can accept gifts, he just won't. I gave Bjork a present and she really loved it.

Prince just likes to think he's on the level of the president.

With respect to gifts consisting of musical compositions, songs, demos, etc., it's pretty simple. Like a lot of creative artists with deep pockets, he can't afford the risk of accepting the gift of a tape or CD and then, later, being accused of having been influnced by it in his creation of a future original composition. Rightly or wrongly, a number of artists have been sued for infringing upon other people's simiar-sounding copyrighted materials that were proven to have been in their possession before they wrote the subsequent mega-hit. As a result, a lot of artists -- on advice of counsel -- absolutely avoid accepting musical gifts.

As far as other stuff goes, what's The Little Fella gonna do with it? Cart it around on tour? Decorate his house? Accept it and then risk pissing me off at the 2003 Celebration when I ask about the sand dollar that I gave him at the Warner Theater in DC in March 2002 -- and he gives me a blank stare, because he honestly doesn't remember the highlight of MY life. Or lie and tell me that Mani turned it into a centepiece for the dining room table and it was a big hit wih the in-laws?

He creates a lot of fantastic music. He puts on incredible shows. Other than the fact that I'm nuts (and soon to be broke), why else would I see him nine times in five cities on three continents this year? I'm very grateful to him for the enjoyment I get out of the art that he creates. And, if I'm the least bit considerate, surely, I could come up with a way to say thanks, without imposing an obligation on him.

For instance, to celebrate my fan-dom (sorry, I don't do "fam"), I could do a good deed -- drop off some flowers at a hospital oncology ward or a nursery home or donate to a homeless shelter. And I could tell them I did it because Prince and NPG were in town and they rocked too much for me not to go out and show some love for mankind. Then, at a sound check or in a letter to Paisley Park, if I felt like it, I could tell The Little Guy that's what I did. I bet that would touch him in a way that a million sand dollars never could.

If I woke up one day 16 inches shorter and posessed with incredible musical talent and could funk it up all over the world the way he does and had (some of) you as fans, that's what I'd want from you. Since you can't do it for me, do it for him!

I don't understand this because I always buy expensive gorgeous gifts and one time I had a wonderful Cuban Cigar and I was told by Security he doesn't accept Gifts. I guess he just doesn't Feel Comfortable accepting these things. It wasn't like it was Drugs or anything cause it wasn't. I guess I'd feel Strange also if some Woman professed her Love for me and gave me gifts,but he should know I'm Gentle. Basically, I'd never do anything to Offend him.

I thought he did accept some gifts from fans. I read from the hit n run oakland soundcheck report that a fan gave him a artwork book of drawings for him while answering some questions, and he kept the gift. I also heard from a Vh1 Prince video collection the dj said a fan sent him some doves over the When Doves Cry song, and he kept that gift.

Sometimes I do think Prince thinks he'll be Encouraging things which he doesn't want. A long time ago somebody told me that he didn't want to encourage something he couldn't fulfill . Some artists accept gifts and are very gracious to receive them.I've seen Patti LaBelle in concert before and she was overwhelmed by all the flowers and gifts that people kept handing to her.She really appreciated it.Several months ago,I saw Marc Anthony in concert and he kept stopping his concert to accept the many gifts that girls were giving to him.

Of course,I don't know what these people actually DO with all these gifts...lol...but at least they took the time to accept them and to thank the fans for them.
