i AGREE.

it is pretty terrible.
i sat by the computer and listened to that LA station and kept missing it.
i finally tracked it down 'somewhere'.

and i stopped listening about halfway thru.
it is just so repetitive and boring.
im completely over this style of P song.
just like im over the 'call my name' type of ballad.
P seems to think there is a formula that he needs to stick to.

P needs to reinvent the formula, experiment more, get more electronic!
NO MORE HORNS!!!!!

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!
This vegas act that he has been putting on is tired. Those horns are tired. this by the books "funk" is tired. This 21 nights phototshop pics of Prince dressed up and showing girls who I don't give a fuck about is tired. If he's going to stay in Prince world then he needs to go back to what exactly that is. If he gets lost put on COntroversy and 1999 for reference. The man can do soooo much more than what he has put out. I almost lost it with Planet Earth. I still don't see how people can honestly think that was a good album (I even liked Chaos and disorder).

chaos and disorder was GREAT!
at least it rocked out and doesnt just lay limp like the latest stuff does....

I agree with Rake1... you need to find another artist to listen to. Some fans will be forever Prince fans....those are the fans that love him for "who he is" and not what he does. Prince said he had a FU attitude when he did ATWIAD....the FU attitude was for people and fans like you....ATWIAD was for fans and supporters like Rake1 and me.

Keeping it alive? Please... more like robbing it's grave. If this is all he's got left in the tank, then he needs to retire with dignity. 20 years ago Prince wouldn't have allowed this crap to see the light of day, but now, it's a different story. He never would have had a career, had this come out in '78! He would have been a poser. But today, we should give him a pass, huh? Screw that.

I am by no means confusing the 2. I said I agree with Rake1 that whomever does not like listening to Turn Me Loose or any other song for that matter does not constitute that Prince should retire and that prehaps they should find another artist to listen to. I tapped in on ATWIAD because my attitude as Prince was then is FU cuz if you don't like it then you know what you can do. I get tried of so call fans complaining about Prince...no one has a gun to anyones head forcing Prince's music on them.

The writing is all the wall for our boy. He's coasting. He's Vegas. He's Hollywood. He's soft. Gone is the scrappy fighter from Minneapolis. Gone is the hunger. Gone is the driving force to show everybody what's up! Now it's all about hiding in the memory of James Brown's shadow.

damn,,,,I thought this is where the prince fans are.....I must have been going to the wrong site all these years! Prince has given me some great music over the years. Some I like more than others, but even his weakest material is better than the crap that radio keeps spinning these days.

Prince give me whatever music u want..I will take it!

a lot of us fans do complain on these forums a lot, i will agree with you.
i think i am frustrated because i miss the inventive side of prince's music, great music, well crafted lyrics.
there are glimmers of it in recent albums: fury (live version especially), reflection, black sweat, the word, last december
i just want him to stop with the hackneyed formulas like
the soul ballads: 'call my name' / ' somewhere here on earth / satisfied / on the couch/
the weak JB esque :tracks: 'turn me loose / musicology/ the work/ ,
the wannabe new party jam: life of the party,

the reason many of us love him is that he broke rules and made others follow him, both in music and in persona.

and i guess we know the spark is still there, but it seems like he feels the need to play it safe and repeat the same tired path.

clapping bow nod
Bra-fucking-vo! Perfectly said.

I haven't given up on Prince yet. I know he's capable of more than he's been giving us. Yeah, the new work is still better than 95% of what's on the radio, but by Prince standards he's been kind of half-assing it the past few years.

I feel like a teacher with an A+ student, frustrated and confused that he keeps handing in B papers. B's still good, but I know he can do better.

falloff

Unless you know him personally, you can't possibly love him for who he is. Don't start thinking you've got some deep connection with the man because you buy his CD's, and don't you DARE start calling out those who don't care for certain songs as not being true fans, or not loyal enough, or whatever your issue is. We don't have to be swinging off his nutsack to be fans. A real fan is allowed to say when they don't like something.

Remember when Prince used to write great pop songs that didn't cause such division of opinion among his listeners? Very few thought tunes like Raspberry Beret or I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man were lousy tracks. Compared with his more recent output, anyway...too bad.

If Prince wrote Raspberry Beret or ICNTTPOYM today, trust me, the division of opinions would be the same. Just because those songs got radio airplay and were hits doesn't mean all Prince fans loved them.
I don't know if prince.org was around back then, but if it was, there was probably a lot of hate expressed for Raspberry Beret.

Hmmmm....interesting debate. I can relate to feeling like the "hunger" and the "scrappy fighter" are gone (although I don't think they are gone, he has just changed and grown). And, I do love it when he blows my mind. In truth, it has been a while since that happened (and it is relative, a matter of degrees..PR blown mind or "The Word" blown mind, or controversy blown mind). I don't think RETIRE and Prince go together, I don't think that is something he will ever do. And just 'cuz his stuff isn't delivering the way everyone wants it, doesn't mean it's retirement time. He is an artist. Art moves, and changes, and expands and contracts. He might be coasting, and so what? It is part of being Prince, at least right now.

Leave the weak James Brown rehashes to the bar bands, dude. You used to be capable of so much better than this. Will you ever again focus on songwriting?
Prince used to be Sexy MF, now he should be called Lazy MF. Dude, is way too overconfident these days.

-----
I have no idea why you think P should retire based off a one song that may not be an official release. I also have no idea what "bar bands" have to do with JB (LOL) People listen to P to jam and dance. He is good at writing jams and I do not see anyone catching him in the groove department these days. In RnB we need more live drums, horns and rhythm if P wants to gave us that than great it might be time for members of the rhythm less nation to retire themselves from listing to P's output.

Damn, I Really Love this site lol . Just when I thought I was the only person not feeling this James Brown wanna be material, I see this thread. I don't believe being a Fan of an artist forces you to have to DIG everything the Artist decides to release. IF Prince is the Genius that everybody calls him, then why is he borrowing so much now from James. Keep innovating, Prince!

So instead of releasing the mindblowing goodness and at least trying to shut us up, he should just continue the half-assery he's working now, since some of us would complain no matter what?

That doesn't make any sense.

It makes perfect sense. A person can only fight uphill for so long before they say fuck it. Prince knows that whatever he puts out will be highly critized so those songs that are dearest to his heart (the ones he feels are intensely personal or musically moving for him) are hard for him to let go. Its like releasing your children on the world only for your friends to say how ugly the children are.

Prince is an artist and human he feels negativity like anyone else. He has stated it many times in songs but u crackheads don't get it.

listen to "pearls before the swine" or "dolphin" or "why should I do that when I can do this". Shit go back and listen to "billy jack bitch" or "hello"...cruel words.

If he disapoints u it would be better for u to move on to music that excites rather then shitting on his children. Some of u have no manners.

People accused Prince of being on auto-pilot 15 years ago. I like the song, but I am still holding out that he makes another album like The Rainbow Children. But if he doesn't, just think of the songs that we do have by him, that would teach our children about.
