Turn Me Loose Is So Bad Prince Should Retire

Leave the weak James Brown rehashes to the bar bands, dude. You used to be capable of so much better than this. Will you ever again focus on songwriting?
Prince used to be Sexy MF, now he should be called Lazy MF. Dude, is way too overconfident these days.

I have not heard the studio version, but the live version is cool in my opinion its a lot better song than the crap whats being released these days yes he could probably do better but what has he left to prove, nothing some people dig the song others wont.

I still haven;t heard the new track. But based on much of his recent output I'd have to say the dude can do better.

Is the man never allowed to be off the mark once in a while? In all the work he has created, all the joy and ecstacy he has generated, can he not just fall off a little? What is crap to you may not be to another.

True enough.

But he's been slipping a lot lately. Maybe what he needs to do is take a break from recording for a while. Churning out tune after tune is pointless if it's not going to be all he can give, and he can give more than this. The problem with a lot of his recent work isn't that it's all that bad, it just sounds half-hearted.

Take a vay-cay, Your Highness. It's okay, we'll be here when you get back. cool

And, you know, he has dropped off like this through out his career, at different times, in different ways.
I can almost always be counted on to be a PRO PRINCE, die-hard, hard core, fan, but still..I think he is probably doing what he is doing for a reason he believes in. His relationship with his fans has never been focused on just making us all happy.

Turn Me Loose is not that bad; it's got what makes an entertaining funk song. Short 'n' sexy. True, it's not too experimental or daring but does all Prince's work have to be so?

Prince, don't retire, just do what you please and do it your own way. Never slow down!

lol There's nothing wrong with TML, it's only because you're comparing it to HIS past output, not anyone else's! I bet it would be amazing live too! cool

No. It's a great funk jam. But you're right - nothing special here. Nothing new. Nothing innovative.

Prince has been spinning his wheels for years now in the recording studio, rehashing the same types of songs. They're pleasant, but no growth or innovation is happening.

The Rainbow Children is the last time Prince did something kind of far out and fresh. Granted, that wasn't very long ago....but

A man of his genius should stretch himself. Who knows why he isn't anymore?

Another thing: I keep reading interviews where Prince plays a song for a reporter and says something like, "It's too good, they won't get that, I can't release it."

Freaking release it, Prince. WTF?

That's just marketing - I wouldn't believe the "can't release it" part. Saying that just makes people more anxious to buy it.

Something similar would be when he said that Emancipation was "the album he was born to make".

I'm not too crazy about the lyrics, but I hardly think it's reason 4 Prince to retire. Drama queen! confused

Yeah right and what about The work that is very similar to TML, wasn't it on TRC ?

I disagree with you. When I hear Prince getting back to live instruments and expressing his musicianship, it's always a good sign.

I really dig TML. Certainly nothing inoovative in this tune but it puts to shame all these crap bands who know three chords out there.
It's fun and that's what it is is intended to be.

i AGREE.

it is pretty terrible.
i sat by the computer and listened to that LA station and kept missing it.
i finally tracked it down 'somewhere'.

and i stopped listening about halfway thru.
it is just so repetitive and boring.
im completely over this style of P song.
just like im over the 'call my name' type of ballad.
P seems to think there is a formula that he needs to stick to.

P needs to reinvent the formula, experiment more, get more electronic!
NO MORE HORNS!!!!!

damn,,,,I thought this is where the prince fans are.....I must have been going to the wrong site all these years! Prince has given me some great music over the years. Some I like more than others, but even his weakest material is better than the crap that radio keeps spinning these days.

Prince give me whatever music u want..I will take it!

a lot of us fans do complain on these forums a lot, i will agree with you.
i think i am frustrated because i miss the inventive side of prince's music, great music, well crafted lyrics.
there are glimmers of it in recent albums: fury (live version especially), reflection, black sweat, the word, last december
i just want him to stop with the hackneyed formulas like
the soul ballads: 'call my name' / ' somewhere here on earth / satisfied / on the couch/
the weak JB esque :tracks: 'turn me loose / musicology/ the work/ ,
the wannabe new party jam: life of the party,

the reason many of us love him is that he broke rules and made others follow him, both in music and in persona.

and i guess we know the spark is still there, but it seems like he feels the need to play it safe and repeat the same tired path.

I think the worst part about the song is his vocals, he sounds bored and tired like he's just going through the motions

We can't keep using that as an excuse. Prince used to care about making GREAT songs, and he worked hard to do so. Lately he throws any old crap out there and says "well at least I'm playing 'real' instruments". Screw that. A lot of today's hot artists are weak, but that doesn't mean Prince can throw any half-assed thing out there and not get called out on it.

Prince is brilliant, when he wants to be. The mainstream press isn't gonna say anything, but enough is enough. I hate to say it, but it sounds like songwriting and production are now an afterthought for Prince. He's wearing too many hats and taking the music for granted.

It's not my cup of tea, but I'm willing to give it another listen. Usually when Prince fans do that they see how great a song really is. heart ya Prince wink

That's the scary thing. When somebody loses it, it's hard to be sure, because they seem so close. But Prince has been consistently bland for a long time now. Literally, any funk band could make Turn Me Loose, and a lot could do it better. This song is missing the Prince vibe. It's more like weak James Brown.

Agreed. It's alright as a support track on an album, but a single? I don't understand it. That's two songs now, ruined by referencing people talking about his private life on the 'org. I'm sure the casual music fans will jump out of their seats and start dancing when they hear that.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!
This vegas act that he has been putting on is tired. Those horns are tired. this by the books "funk" is tired. This 21 nights phototshop pics of Prince dressed up and showing girls who I don't give a fuck about is tired. If he's going to stay in Prince world then he needs to go back to what exactly that is. If he gets lost put on COntroversy and 1999 for reference. The man can do soooo much more than what he has put out. I almost lost it with Planet Earth. I still don't see how people can honestly think that was a good album (I even liked Chaos and disorder).

It sounds like more rehash of "the Work" or "Get on the Boat" but I do like the fuzzy guitar solo this time.

Not sure if I would say "retire" but wouldn't mind hearing some "mind blowing" vault music along with the new stuff.
