I'm so excited, when I leave work at 7pm I'm on my way to Borders Books to pick up Princes 21 nights book. I read some of the posts on here and boy oh boy people sound so mean, bitter and ungrateful.

He didn't have to do anything, we have to sometimes just sit back, and appreciate music and art for what it is. This man has been through so much, and he's apparently giving us what he feels in his soul.

I'm like this, if people are going to whine and complain, then you try being a musician, and playing 21 nights straight anywhere. If you are a musician, then you can tactfully critique, but most of us are not.

Why not enjoy the music for what it is, sit back, enjoy the photos, read the poetry and drink a glass of wine or whatever.

I'll post what I thought of the book, and you better believe, it won't be a negative post. I love PRINCE, respect his music and I'm a die-hard fan.

Enjoy life, enjoy the moments, look at the art for what it is, and not what you think it should be. A side note, I'll be getting the book for only $25.00 because I'm a Borders books member. So, you can save money on this book. However way the music may sound to me I'm going to be happy, because Prince is and will always be my favorite artist.

Don't believe the un-hype. I got mine at Target, it practically across the street. It was $35 and worth it. It's an awesome Book. Very thick. Would look insanely impressive on most any coffee table, especially Kramer's. And the CD is Kool & The Gang. It the It Ain't Over of 2008. Very musical, very funny, very entertaining. Not the greatest CD on the planet, but is there one at the end of the day. All said, for $35 bucks, it was a great buy.

My "It Ain't Over" cd got cracked when I sat on it on accident. I had burned it of course, but for the life of me I can't find it ANYWHERE...on my hard drive, on CD-R, or ANEEEEWHERE....hint hint...i check my org notes.

oh, but i do take back what i said about mike phillips in an earlier post. for the most part i can tolerate his playing on the indigo nights CD, but all that squeaking and squonking at the beginning of "the one" makes me feel like i have a hangover and someone is making balloon animals right next to my ear in a room full of hungry chihuahuas. i'm sure he's amazingly skilled at what he does, but i just can't listen to all that screeching.

its probably "the entertainer." (scott joplin) but this version of 3121 also contains bits of "alexander's ragtime band" (irving berlin) and "music music music" (baum/weiss)

I went into this with no expecations. I had little interest in it and I didn't expect anything at all really.

I'm disappointed. I put it on at work today (twice), and it gave me a headache. Worse than that, I came away from it with a bad taste in my mouth about where Prince's career as a live performer is heading.

I'm glad this thread has turned round with some positive comments, i really like the CD a lot.

But this is where i'm at with Prince at this moment, he could release live albums from now on and i'd be more than happy.

This is described as a soundboard recording of an example of the Indigo aftershows. From what i remember, this is exactly what those shows sounded like live. At the time, those aftershows were reaping huge praise. The music hasn't suddenly changed from one year to the next. This is what it sounded like so why the negativity? The only sounds that i can recall are missing are the sounds of drunken idiots making pains of themselves by falling over - causing fights..
During these shows, Prince gave his female vocalists the spotlight. As this is a snapshot of those shows. Why not hear Shelby? She has an awesome voice - she is clearly good enough for Princes ear.. why not ours?
I also think that it is good to hear a few covers thrown into the mix - songs Prince clearly wanted to play which are good to hear (as many times the songs are new to me and others).
I am a musician myself and regarding the quality of this band, make no mistake - they are in a different league to 99% of what is currently out there.
Enjoy it and treat it as a memory, that is all it is meant to be!

As a longtime die-hard fan, this disc sounds like yet another maddening move by Prince. Why can't he deliver a disc full of the fantastic live Prince songs he performed during 21 nights? Who is Shelby J? And who cares? This has always been one of the things about Prince that baffles me and pisses me off - his poor decision-making when it comes to the records he releases.

I have no interest in the book. I'll just wait for a torrent of the tracks.

The CD bites the banooch.Nah, Not really that bad, it's just boring and uninspired. It's just simply there. Not really bad or good, just there.
Prince is the man and the gems that come every now and then always keep me buying.

Been a fan since '81. Over the last decade or so it's the same thing. I can't wait till something new comes out and then there is this mild to extreme disappointment. Love his music, always have and always will but the list of uninspired cds is growing longer and longer. .

I think the cd pretty much nails the Indigo experience. People are asking for Empty room and Anotherlover.... fuck sake he played Empty room to death on the ona tour, he played anotherlover every night during the tour.

I was there for most of the performances on this CD and i loved it.. the audience loved the spoken word parts about the tampons and MJ so thats why he has included it in the CD, we were all laughing our heads off at the sillyness. I do think that section of the CD is a bit long however.

The first 3 tracks are great - i have no complaints.

I think Rocksteady is where the cd really starts to build, Misty Blues is particularly great, beautiful vocals. Whole lotta love has some amazing guitar work and its definitely a guitar tone we've never heard from P before. The bass on Alphabet St is fantastic and really creates a unique performance of that song.

Baby Love had to be on there. It was one of the regulars on the tour and really showcased the great Shelby and P together.

The One/QofU/Fallin.. Im so glad he put this one on here, its been a fan favourite for a few years now and this is one of the strongest tracks on the cd.

I listened to most of the cd last night and I loved it. It was a strong reflection of the Indigo nights. Who wants to listen to the polished Prince, I was laughing my head off when he was talking about the cross eyed woman. Its so refreshing to hear Prince actually having a laugh with us, God knows we all need that signal that he is human with a wicked sense of humour, even if you dont think he's funny.

Granted, it is not OTA but we already own that don't we!.

To me, the CD is a disappointment and a pointer to Prince as to why people download and buy bootlegs - that way we get what we want - OK the quality isn't so good (or over-dubbed - oh why?)
OK, it is a fair representation of the Indigo aftershows but there were some much better tunes (Stratus anyone? Or the blistering Guitar on 6th Sept) and better versions of the songs than those used on the CD. Another complaint is the editing... For example, Alphabet Street went into an extended jam and didn't fade out! Indigo Nights is a short clip of the extended jam ending of Alphabet St. which continued through Get On The Boat, Play That Funky Music etc etc... All the Critics was 17mins long at the final aftershow and was truly awesome but I can understand the shortening of this. The Satisfied/Beggin' Woman was great live but taking up time on this CD... well, as I said earlier, better tunes were played. 2 Shelby J tunes? Again a waste of the allotted 77 mins. No Amy Winehouse. No Common. No 28th August. eh?
Pearl Jam have been mentioned once or twice on this site before - they release almost every live show for download soon after ecah show is complete - with the quality possible of a live recording-to-download nowadays, surely Prince should stop finding new ways to distribute his music and use the methods other bands/acts have used to great success.

I was at the Indigo shows on the 1st Sept (2nd am) and the 16th Sept (17th am) and I'm sure that 'Song of The Heart', 'Delirious', 'Just like u', 'Satisfied' and 'Begging Women Blues' are all from the 17th am show - has anyone else got the dates of the rest of the CD?

By the way; we loved it here in the office, really clean, funky, fresh, come on give the guy some credit - it's this or the X-Faxtor people - WAKE UP!!!!

The sound quality is absolutely amazing!
Just listening to Prince on guitar again is giving me chills. The recording has captured what it's like to stand in front of him while he plays guitar and bass like the devil.
Any negative comments must be from people who didn't experience this in the flesh last year. I'm gladly being taken right back to the Indigo Club, and it's pretty hot second time round.

First of all let me say..Prince is the freak'n man! Ive been a fan for 20 years!
I have every cd he's released(and some he hasnt, lol) I have all his dvds hes released ( and some he hasnt) Ive seen him in concert, my nickname in High school was even Prince cause They say I looked like him... So this opinion is definately NOT coming from a hater! I found the book to be disappointing. The poetry was very short and seemed incomplete. The lyrics...well, we already have those.The pictures were amazing! Great photography! And prince looks great as usual.He looks around 30 years old! And you can tell its not all make up that makes him look so young,because theres some great close ups of his face. In short, I think the hype around the book was a bit misleading. Its not an in depth look into his life. It says nothing about his (personal)life. Its mainly just pictures...and alot of them arent even of him. I love you man, but the book coulda been better. The cd, I cant really comment on, cause I havnt heard all of it yet, but "whole lotta love" is AMAZING!!!

What exactly are you looking for on this official releases? Do you want the after show CD to be 2 hours long, include the same songs that were played at the concert or do you just not have enough bad sound and screaming people that you get on a bootleg.

I play the CD for “It Ain’t Over” for people who are not Prince fans and they love it. Nobody that knows anything about music or P’s aftershows is going to listen to this CD and think P puts on bad shows or is a poor showman. It is a snippet of an aftershow it is not the actual concert and in some respects the aftershow are better than the concert and more people need to be aware.

BTW You've got to listen to the real thing, not the mp3s circulating out there.

Regarding the obsessive bootlegers collectors, you'll never be satisfied. But I will never understand how you can take any pleasure in listening to these awful recording of aftershows. This is not music to me.
As soon as something becomes official it is not the same :
when the black album was released, some suddenly did not like the cd anymore.

I have been to numerous aftershows as well last year (and many for the last 25 years !) and the cd symbolizes very well what the aftershows were all about.

I was really disappointed by It ain't over (apart from Joy in repetition !) but this time, this cd kills.

Again, listen to the real cd, not the compressed mp3. The sound is organic, it is so good, so funky. Love it !
