Who has Princes' first Album (not the dang CD) and how much is it worth?

I got the first album still along with Vanity (which last I heard was about $125). Just curious.

I have Prince's first album 'For You' on vinyl,in mint condition. Not sure how much it would be worth, but I would never sell it anyway. We don't know how long it'll be 'til Prince remasters his old recordings, and right now, this vinyl album sounds BETTER than the crappy CD version smile

The CD version sucks, plain and simple! ALL of Prince's early albums from 'For You' to 'Lovesexy' desperately need to be re-mastered.The sound quality is flat, especially on 'Dirty Mind' and 'Controversy'.If you already have the vinyl versions of these albums, don't waste your money on the CDs UNTIL they get re-mastered.

It's nothing wrong with the CD version, Its just that the Vinyl is where Prince made his debute. I too have the CD version and play that more than my Vinyl, lol

The Vanity "CD" at one point was going for $125, but not anymore. Someone has reproduced copies of the cd so they are selling for around $20 on ebay. The vinyl records are not worth all that much as they are not that rare. A signed Vanity 6 album is currently only selling for $.99 on ebay. The album seems to generally sell for around $5 from what I've seen.

There is not much value in the "For You" record. On ebay right now there are 5 different auctions going at a price of between $1 and $7. There is even a sealed copy for sale right now.

The rarest publicly relased Prince vinyl record is the "Let's Work" single which sells for around $30-40. So I'm not counting the Gett Off promo or the orignal Black Album only released albums.

For You was priced at $4.25

Madhouse casettes was priced at $4.50, but like a dumbass my behind said,"oh no ones gonna get that, I'll get it tomorrow"..to find out they were gone.

This is so true. But I wonder if those lovely people over at WB are gonna bother re-mastering albums that, to be fair, aren't going to sell by the bucketload. This is of course compounded by our purple freind's tedious "war" with his former $100 million "masters".

The "For You" LP is worth about $3, it's available at any used record store in perfect condition here in Holland and goes for that amount...
And that "Vanity 6" LP is worth even less... But there are people who are willing to pay $100+ for the original CD version...

I was moaning the same thing this morning, trying to listen to "1999" and having to turn it all the way up. I agree, though, that this may never happen. sad

Which label-version are you talking about?
The one with the 'normal' label, or the one with the 'palmtree'-label (= first pressing)?

The 'normal' one is pretty easy to find, the other one...?

The "palmtree" label one is pretty easy to find in perfect shape...
The real gold is in the promo LP, with the white sleeve and red WB logo on it and the sticker that says "including the first single Soft And Wet"... Now that's a rarity...

I have it, I think it's the first pressing, have no idea how much it's worth. I also have Vanity & apollonia6, and the Time's first three records on vinyl, all in mint condition.
