I don't know why a lot of people hate it
I like the ending somewhat better than 3121, which had "The Dance" towards the end... making it sound like he's very lonely. He sounds happy for the majority of PE. Hell, he sounds happy in all of it. The song "Somewhere Here on Earth" sounds like he's full of hope that his soulmate will answer his call. He knows she's out there and she knows he's out there. He just wants her to make the first move Overall, the music sounds like it fits together. The lyrics all suggest he's looking for love and its more/less a personal ad from track 3 to 7 (ending with the song "All the Midnights"). The title is a little off, but I think it has a collective message unlike 3121 which is just a bunch of various material. Both are good albums, though. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Ask Love4oneanotherTheOriginal... Please don't or he'll never shut up... I'll always fight and say how much I love the album. He counters with every possible reason of why it sucks. The only two things that DOESN'T include are "Guitar" and "Somewhere here on Earth"... the only two tracks out of it that he likes had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It's a great record, and IMO it's getting back on track after the disappointing Musicology and 3121. You find a lot of people who didn't like PE like Musicology/3121. Generalising of course. I think some people didn't like it because it wasn't promoted in the USA like the preceeding two albums were. Maybe they'll come back to it in time and realise what a great little record it is, much like people are doing with C&D and Come now.

i love it, but its not as well structured as 3121
prince must prefere 3121 as 3121, black sweat, lolita, the dance and get on the boat are still performed live. planet earth is a bit weaker with all the midnights and resolution.

Have grown to dislike it more and more, after the initial disappointment:
The first track is asinine, arrogant and ignorant when it should be profoundly meaningful. The rest of the album is at best boring. I initially liked SHOE and quite liked Guitar, but now they grate on me too. I do like CR, but that's about it. And I find Lion of Judah and Resolution unlistenable! (I liked 3121 and quite liked Musicology, so maybe the theory's correct) "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

I like it...although I always skip Mr Goodnight. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

i don't hate it. but i don't really love it either. it leaves me kinda cold.
it should't really since i like all the tracks except the title track which i absolutely dislike in the same vein as only 3 or 4 tracks i totally hate in his entire catalogue (grafitty bridge, jughead, life of the party). it's a nice album that builds on his legacy and showcases him broadening his musical palette instead of breaking new ground. as such it's ok. but most of it just doesn't grab me or entice me to play it over and over. but i still think that perhaps over time i will learn to appreciate it more and more. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

top 5 Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Music is an art form, I think "Different Strokes 4 Different Folks" thingy applies. I personally liked Planet Earth but surely 4 different reasons then most here, music is liked or disliked based on wether or not u have anything in common with said music, in this case Planet Earth. There where a couple of catchy grooves on there but 4 me it's mostly the tunes that never make the radio rotation that capture my attention. See 4 me that's where u find Prince's genius, making radio friendly tunes are easy these day's so imagine how easy it is 4 Prince. Well I'm to tired to write a novel on the subject so basically I'm saying, enjoy what u enjoy and never expect people 2 enjoy all of the same mus as u, the love 4 mus is a personal thing.
